If Redflow was among them, the company&#8217;s CEO certainly doesn&#8217;t have a case of sour grapes regarding the outcome &#8211; quite the opposite.<\/p>\n<p>In an opinion piece published on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adelaidenow.com.au\/news\/opinion\/simon-hackett-elon-musk-tesla-project-sets-up-south-australia-as-world-leader-in-battery-storage\/news-story\/8967fec94d89fc62fa3b165526b38da3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Advertiser<\/a>,\u00a0 Mr. Hackett said the project demonstrates the growing maturity of energy storage systems and acts as confirmation batteries will play a critical role in realising the full potential of renewable energy.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The significance of this contract was not a competition between Tesla and other battery companies. It\u2019s about renewables and energy storage demonstrating their capacity to technically and affordably replace fossil fuels.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mr. Hackett said batteries have the potential to entirely change the way energy is distributed and he looks forward to seeing the South Australian project up and running as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The global energy storage market is huge and is largely untapped. This project will act as a validation point and an accelerant of change,&#8221; he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Queensland-based Redflow manufactures <a href=\"http:\/\/redflow.com\/products\/redflow-lsb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">large-scale battery solutions<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/redflows-zinc-bromide-zcell-battery-may-have-the-edge-over-lithium-ion\/\">Z-Cell home energy storage system<\/a>, the smallest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/flowbatteries.html\">flow battery<\/a> in the world.<\/p>\n<p>For those companies that didn&#8217;t get the SA tender guernsey, South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill said yesterday there may be other opportunities on the horizon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is just the beginning of investment in battery technologies, once we prove up that you can write a contract with a renewable energy company, and it\u2019s a firm contract, (that) changes everything,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adelaidenow.com.au\/news\/south-australia\/under-treasurer-david-reynolds-confirms-backup-generators-as-part-of-state-governments-energy-plan-will-cost-110m\/news-story\/873fa29923a6b15c0ac0a26bb21ed245\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated the Premier<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the cost of the Tesla battery project, that was also revealed yesterday &#8211; around $50 million, with $5 million a year to be paid over 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>The project has received coverage all over the world and while much of it has been positive, there has been some negativity and misinformation regarding the capabilities of the energy storage facility.
