{"id":14970,"date":"2017-09-13T06:11:04","date_gmt":"2017-09-12T19:41:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/?p=14970"},"modified":"2017-09-13T06:11:04","modified_gmt":"2017-09-12T19:41:04","slug":"greener-government-buildings-solar-mb0204","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/greener-government-buildings-solar-mb0204\/","title":{"rendered":"Greener Government Buildings Funding For Victorian Health Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_14971\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14971\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14971\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/greener-government-buildings.jpg\" alt=\"solar panels for Victorian health services\" width=\"700\" height=\"458\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/greener-government-buildings.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/greener-government-buildings-300x196.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-14971\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image: Google Earth<\/p><\/div>\n<p>$26 million in funding will be made available through the Greener Government Buildings program for solar power installations and energy efficiency upgrades at hospitals and regional health services in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Announced yesterday by Finance Minister Robin Scott and Minister for Health Jill Hennessy, the funding is expected to save more than $70 million over the service life of the investments made, while avoiding more than 20,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe\u2019re taking action on climate change and driving down costs for our hospitals and health services,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/Umd2zz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> said<\/a> Minister Scott. \u201cThe Greener Government Buildings program is a win\/win \u2013 it reduces greenhouse gas emissions, creates jobs and saves Victorians money.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Among the services to receive funding:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Up to $7 million for Peninsula Health (including Frankston Hospital)<\/li>\n<li>$5 million for Northern Health<\/li>\n<li>$3.9 million for hospitals in Gippsland<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Participants will be eligible for loans to install solar panels and have access to a solar bulk buy program through Health Purchasing Victoria, which aims to get the best value for money.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/pZ55y1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Greener Government Building<\/a>s program (GGB) was reinstated by the Andrews Labor Government last year <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefifthestate.com.au\/business\/government\/hospitals-to-suffer-as-victoria-axes-greener-government-buildings-program\/60739\"> after it was scrapped<\/a> under the former Coalition Government in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>At least ten hospitals and health services had to ditch planned energy efficiency upgrades as a result of the program&#8217;s axing. The reasoning provided at the time was dumping GGB would save money &#8211; even though it was a loans rather than a grants program and had demonstrated annual direct cost savings in utilities and maintenance bills of $32.17 million.<\/p>\n<p>The program won a Premier&#8217;s Sustainability Award in 2011.<\/p>\n<h2>Premier\u2019s Sustainability Awards Finalists<\/h2>\n<p>On a related note, the <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/bGFAiD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> finalists<\/a> for the 2017 Premier\u2019s Sustainability Awards were announced yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Among those selected is <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/yXWjvt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Cape<\/a> sustainable housing project at Cape Patterson. Each house built in the estate will have a minimum 2.5kW of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/cost\/\"> solar panels<\/a> installed. The Cape has 220 home sites, with Stage 1 almost completely sold out according to the developers.<\/p>\n<p>Another finalist in the Built Environment category is the <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/tFNx5i\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nightingale 1<\/a> apartment project in Brunswick. 20 apartments with an average <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/energy-efficiency\/\">energy efficiency<\/a> rating of 8.2 stars are being built, along with a shared 18kW solar array and a rooftop garden. The project is expected to be completed in November this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had the broadest cross section of entries in the Award\u2019s 15 year history and it\u2019s great to see such ingenuity and innovation in the way Victorians approach sustainability,&#8221;
