MyCar luxury electric vehicle chauffeur service<\/p><\/div>\n

Want to take a spin in a Tesla? South Australia\u2019s first zero-emissions chauffeur service, myCar, launched in Adelaide yesterday – but as a luxury service, it won’t be cheap.<\/p>\n

myCar will be utilising a network of 40 new EV charging stations<\/a>, including Tesla superchargers<\/a>, being rolled out by Adelaide City Council.<\/p>\n

The company’s fleet is comprised of several different makes and models – the Mercedes S500 PHEV, Tesla X and S, and Lexus hybrid vehicles.<\/p>\n

As an example of pricing, a trip from Adelaide Airport to Rundle Mall (~17 minutes) in a Tesla will cost around $75 according to myCar’s instant quote tool. A standard taxi or UberX fare is approximately $19-25 and an UberBLACK trip costs $33-42.<\/p>\n

It may seem to be a service solely for the well-to-do wanting to burn cash rather than fossil fuels, but myCar<\/a> founder Mark Harrington sees his company as having a positive impact in promoting electric vehicle technology.<\/p>\n

“The availability of these cars will help demonstrate the functionality of electric cars to those corporate decision makers looking to upgrade their fleet to low-emissions vehicles, for their environmental benefits and to save on fuel costs,” said<\/a> Mr. Harrington.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Environment Minister Ian Hunter also says the service will spark the uptake of low emissions vehicles.<\/p>\n

“This is an excellent example of a new business that is seizing the opportunity that Adelaide is creating by paving the way for environment-friendly electric vehicles,” stated Minister Hunter. “It is exciting that entrepreneurs are stepping up to help us achieve our ambitions of making Adelaide the worlds\u2019 first carbon-neutral city.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Lord Mayor of the City of Adelaide Martin Haese also congratulated<\/a> myCar on its launch and noted the company was a founding partner of Carbon Neutral Adelaide.<\/p>\n

The myCar web site states all its drivers have passed police working with children checks and hold current medical and eyesight certificates<\/p>\n

The EV scene is starting to gain steam in Australia and Adelaide<\/a> will be a hotspot of activity. On a related note, last month it was announced France’s Navya, which manufactures autonomous electric vehicles, looks set establish a manufacturing facility in Adelaide<\/a>.<\/p>\n
