{"id":16807,"date":"2017-11-16T10:02:20","date_gmt":"2017-11-15T23:32:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/?p=16807"},"modified":"2017-11-16T10:04:15","modified_gmt":"2017-11-15T23:34:15","slug":"sma-inverter-battery-storage-mb0308","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/sma-inverter-battery-storage-mb0308\/","title":{"rendered":"SMA Battery Inverters For 20 MW Energy Storage Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_16810\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16810\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16810\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/sma-battery-inverter-2.jpg\" alt=\"Sunny Central Storage battery inverter\" width=\"700\" height=\"484\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-16810\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sunny Central Storage battery inverter<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Solar inverter manufacturer SMA has announced it is supplying Sunny Central Storage battery inverters for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power\u2019s (LADWP&#8217;s) Beacon Energy Storage System.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Thirteen of SMA\u2019s Sunny Central Storage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sma.de\/en\/products\/battery-inverters\/sunny-central-storage-2200-us-2475-us-2500-ev-us-2750-ev-us.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> 2750-EV-US<\/a> battery inverters will be used for the project.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cGlobal demand for storage technologies is rising and the seamless integration of renewable energies will become one of the major challenges for the energy supply of the future,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sma.de\/en\/newsroom\/current-news\/news-details\/news\/16255-sma-battery-inverter-sunny-central-storage-secures-grid-stability-in-california.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Volker Wachenfeld, Executive Vice President Business Unit Offgrid and Storage at SMA. &#8221; We are proud that SMA is already offering the right solutions for future-proof energy systems with system technology for integrating storage systems.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Beacon Energy Storage System is located near LADWP\u2019s 250 MW Beacon solar farm. It will support a total of 600 MW of solar power and 135 MW of wind power projects in the region. The facility will also provide grid regulation, frequency response, and load following capacity.<\/p>\n<p>The Department is also planning the development of a 30 MW Phase 2 Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) expansion at the Beacon site.<\/p>\n<p>In January this year, LADWP <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myladwp.com\/ladwp_steps_up_utility_scale_battery_storage_to_ensure_a_more_reliable_power_grid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">set a goal<\/a> of reaching 178 megawatts (MW) of energy\u00a0storage by 2021 and 404 MW by 2025. The 2025 goal is\u00a0equivalent to approximately 10% of LADWP&#8217;s customer energy load on an average day.<\/p>\n<p>LADWP&#8217;s efforts will play a major part in attaining the Los Angeles&#8217; &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/plan.lamayor.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sustainable City pLAn<\/a>&#8221; target of 1,750 MW of energy storage by 2025.<\/p>\n<p>In other recent news from SMA, the company announced earlier this week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sma.de\/en\/newsroom\/current-news\/news-details\/news\/16250-sma-wins-prestigious-manufacturing-excellence-award-in-two-categories.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it had won <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sma.de\/en\/newsroom\/current-news\/news-details\/news\/16250-sma-wins-prestigious-manufacturing-excellence-award-in-two-categories.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a<\/a> Manufacturing Excellence Award (MX Award) in the Process Innovation and Product Innovation categories.<\/p>\n<p>Also in the last week, the company released its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sma.de\/en\/newsroom\/current-news\/news-details\/news\/16241-sma-solar-technology-ag-strong-growth-in-asia-results-in-considerable-leap-in-earnings-in-thi.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">third quarter financial update<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Between January to September 2017, 5.9 GW of\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/inverters\/sma-review.html\">SMA inverter<\/a> capacity was sold globally. SMA said it recorded significant improvement in Asian markets during the period, where sales increased\u00a0 43%, and\u00a0 also saw rising sales in the EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) region.<\/p>\n<p>However, overall sales globally decreased approximately 16.5% Q1\u2013Q3 compared to the same period last year.
