November proved to be yet another month many Australians were seeking quotes for installing solar power systems as a step towards lower electricity bills.<\/p>\n

Solar Systems – Size Preference<\/h2>\n

Interest in large home solar power<\/a> systems continued to gain steam, growing from 31.5% of all quote requests<\/a> on SolarQuotes in October to 34.6% in November. There was an uptick in interest in 6kW solar packages, jumping from 9.5% in October to just over 11% of all submissions last month.<\/p>\n

\"Solar<\/p>\n

With regard to the % of submitters unsure of what system size<\/a> they require and requesting advice on sizing, since starting the AUSSII this figure has usually been between the 40-44% range (~41% last month). Last month it dropped to under 38%.<\/p>\n

Purchase Intent Timeframe<\/h2>\n

Even with the silly season on the horizon, Australians were quite keen to get solar panels on their rooftops sooner rather than later – with 19% wanting to make a purchase decision “immediately” and nearly 82% within the next 3 months. Both these figures were well up on October (15% and 78% respectively). 31% wanted to buy a system within the next 4 weeks.<\/p>\n

\"Buying<\/p>\n

Solar Quality Vs. Pricing<\/h2>\n

Again in November, Australians getting a solar quote through SQ’s service indicated a preference towards a good mix of system quality and price; with 80% indicating this (around the same as October). Under 8% wanted a “good budget system” and more than 12% indicated they were willing to pay a premium for a top quality PV package.<\/p>\n

Battery Ready PV<\/h2>\n

13% of submitters indicated they wanted a quote on a battery-ready system, up by around 10% on October.<\/p>\n

Concurrent Solar + Storage Installation<\/h2>\n

Just over 5% of submitters indicated they wish to have a hybrid solar + battery system<\/a> installed from the outset, down a little on October’s figures (just under 6%). The percentage has only moved between a little below 5 and 6% over the last few months.<\/p>\n

As we’ve mentioned in previous reports, when a potential solar buyer indicates they are looking at solar + storage, a flag appears in the SQ quoting system<\/a> advising the person of ballpark costs before they proceed – or they can choose an alternative (PV only\/battery-ready PV).<\/p>\n

Battery System Size Preference<\/h2>\n

For those who did want a PV + storage installation from the get-go and indicated a battery size, 51% requested a quote with pricing details for a system with 10+ kilowatt-hours of storage capacity. That’s up from 48% in October and 46% in September.<\/p>\n

Battery Application<\/h2>\n

There was quite a drop in the number of submitters wanting a battery system<\/a> for both backup and minimizing grid use (60% in October, down to 53% in November). In October, just under 33% indicated the primary intended purpose was to minimize grid use. In November, that increased to 42%.<\/p>\n

\"Home<\/p>\n

Power Bill Costs<\/h2>\n

Of those who knew their average power bill costs, 60% were paying more than $500 a quarter on electricity, with nearly 49% paying between $500 and $1,000 a quarter (up from 48% in October).<\/p>\n
