{"id":17757,"date":"2017-12-20T12:52:50","date_gmt":"2017-12-20T02:22:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/?p=17757"},"modified":"2017-12-20T16:01:46","modified_gmt":"2017-12-20T05:31:46","slug":"victoria-solar-tariff-mb0378","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/victoria-solar-tariff-mb0378\/","title":{"rendered":"Draft Victorian Solar Feed-In Tariff Decision Published"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_17759\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17759\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17759\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/solar-incentive-victoria.jpg\" alt=\"Solar feed in tariffs in Victoria\" width=\"700\" height=\"414\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-17759\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image: <a href=\"https:\/\/pixabay.com\/en\/solar-system-roof-power-generation-2939551\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ulleo<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p>From the beginning July next year, Victorian solar households and small businesses may receive different feed in tariff rates based on the time of day electricity is exported.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Victoria&#8217;s Essential Services Commission published its draft decision yesterday, which features two options.<\/p>\n<p>Proposed rates for the time-varying tariff are between 7.2 cents and 29 cents per kilowatt hour of exports.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Off peak: 7.2c per kilowatt-hour<\/li>\n<li>Shoulder: 10.3c per kilowatt-hour<\/li>\n<li>Peak: 29c per kilowatt-hour<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As for the hours\/days the categories would apply:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Off peak: Mon-Sun: 10pm \u2013 7am<\/li>\n<li>Shoulder: Mon-Fri: 7am-3pm, 9pm-10pm, Sat-Sun: 7am to 10pm<\/li>\n<li>Peak : Mon-Fri: 3pm-9pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The proposed minimum price under a single-rate tariff is 9.9 cents per kilowatt hour. This would be a transitional measure and retailers would be able to choose between the two options, or offer both options to customers.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed single rate is a 1.4c reduction from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/systems\/feed-in-tariffs\/vic\/\">current feed-in tariff in Victoria<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;This outcome may appear counter-intuitive given that average wholesale prices between the two forecast periods have increased by around 18 per cent,&#8221; says the Commission &#8220;However, it is caused by changes in the prices during the daylight hours that solar photovoltaic (PV) units are exporting electricity relative to prices during the evening peak. Prices during daylight hours are the prices relevant to setting the single rate FiT .&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Commission says it is not proposing to include a critical peak rate within the time-varying feed-in tariff structure during the 2018\/19 transition year. Critical peak periods have been defined as intervals where wholesale market prices exceed $300 per megawatt-hour. Critical peak period rates will be considered for the 2019\/20 year.<\/p>\n<p>In arriving at the draft decision, the ESC considered the following elements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Forecast average wholesale electricity pool price (base rate) for time varying<\/li>\n<li>Forecast solar weighted wholesale electricity pool price (base rate) for single rate<\/li>\n<li>Avoided market fees and ancillary service charges<\/li>\n<li>Value of avoided distribution and transmission losses<\/li>\n<li>Value of avoided social cost of carbon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The full draft decision, including methodology, <a be viewed here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Feedback on the proposal closes on 29 January 2018 and should be submitted via <a href=\"mailto:fitreview@esc.vic.gov.au\">fitreview@esc.vic.gov.au<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission says once it has considered the comments and input submitted, it intends issuing a final decision by the end of February 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Uptake of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/solar101.html\">solar power systems<\/a> is expected to increase in Victoria next year with the arrival of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/electricity-prices-victoria-mb0327\/\">electricity price rises<\/a> from January 1 of up 14.9%.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From
