Among the prospective tenderers listed are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ABB Australia Pty Limited<\/li>\n<li>Belectric GmbH<\/li>\n<li>BYD Auto Industry Company Limited<\/li>\n<li>ElectraNet Pty Limited<\/li>\n<li>Mitsubishi Australia Limited<\/li>\n<li>Origin<\/li>\n<li>Schneider Electric Australia<\/li>\n<li>Siemens Ltd<\/li>\n<li>Tesla<\/li>\n<li>.. <a href=\"https:\/\/tendersonline.nt.gov.au\/Tender\/Details?id=5114\">and dozens of others<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2018-01-11\/worlds-second-most-powerful-battery-tesla-could-be-built-top-end\/9318828\">ABC report<\/a>, the project will involve a 25 to 45 megawatt battery that will be used to help support renewable energy generation and boost energy security.<\/p>\n<p>The Northern Territory government has aspirations of achieving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/nt-renewables-roadmap-mb0329\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">50% renewables by 2030<\/a>, with solar power to be a critical element.<\/p>\n<h2>Bigger Battery For Queensland?<\/h2>\n<p>Bloomberg reported earlier this week that Neoen, a partner in SA&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/tesla-big-battery-sa-mb0340\/\">Hornsdale Power Reserve<\/a>, is investigating building another large Powerpack based energy storage facility at Neoen\u2019s <a title=\"Kaban link\" href=\"https:\/\/kabangreenpowerhub.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kaban Green Power Hub<\/a>, a 130MW wind farm to be constructed near the town of Ravenshoe.<\/p>\n<p>While the Kaban Green Power Hub web site states &#8220;battery storage of up to 100MW&#8221;, Bloomberg has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-01-09\/tesla-neoen-deal-would-outdo-record-breaking-battery-down-under\">speculated<\/a> the system could eclipse the capacity of the Powerpack plant in South Australia (100MW\/129MWh).<\/p>\n<p>Tesla apparently won&#8217;t comment on the project at this stage, so perhaps we&#8217;ll just have to wait until <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elon Musk tweets<\/a> about it.<\/p>\n<h2>Utility Scale Solar + Battery Storage Bids<\/h2>\n<p>In other energy storage related news from overseas, Carbon Tracker recently revealed how much the cost of electricity from utility scale solar PV + battery storage has dropped (or is expected to drop) in the U.S. state of Colorado. Information gained from Xcel Energy on bids it had received indicated a median bid price of USD $36\/MWh for solar + storage.<\/p>\n<p>While acknowledging there are important unknown details concerning the bids, including storage capacity details, Carbon Tracker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carbontracker.org\/colorados-renewables-revolution\/\">notes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;.. the median solar plus storage bid could be lower than 74% of operating coal capacity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The median bid for solar PV only was USD $29.50\/MWh, suggesting that perhaps not a huge amount of storage is involved in the solar + battery projects.
