{"id":19388,"date":"2018-02-21T08:39:18","date_gmt":"2018-02-20T22:09:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/?p=19388"},"modified":"2024-10-04T07:10:13","modified_gmt":"2024-10-03T21:40:13","slug":"sa-election-renewable-energy-mb0473","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/sa-election-renewable-energy-mb0473\/","title":{"rendered":"SA Labor Commits To 75% Renewables By 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_19389\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19389\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19389\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/sa-labor-renewables.jpg\" alt=\"South Australia renewable energy target\" width=\"700\" height=\"451\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/sa-labor-renewables.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/sa-labor-renewables-300x193.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-19389\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image: SA Labor<\/p><\/div>\n<p>South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill says if Labor is re-elected, it will boost the state&#8217;s Renewable Energy Target to 75 per cent by 2025.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>South Australia&#8217;s current target is 50% by 2025, but the state is way ahead on achieving that goal &#8211; already starting to bump up against that level (48.9 per cent).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Renewable energy means cheaper power for all South Australians,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/standingupforsouthaustralia.com.au\/media\/labor-to-increase-renewable-energy-target-to-75-per-cent\/\">said<\/a> the Premier. &#8220;The world is now looking to South Australia, and we&#8217;re sending yet another signal to renewable energy leaders that their investment is welcome in our state.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>UPDATE:<\/strong> SA Labor has also announced an energy storage target of &#8220;25%&#8221; by 2025, with the aim of having 750MW of storage rolled out by that year.<\/p>\n<p>The announcements follow a series in recent weeks on government supported\/backed energy projects, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/energy-storage-south-australia-mb0452\/\">Highbury pumped hydro energy storage<\/a> project.<\/li>\n<li>The new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/bolivar-power-plant-mb0460\/\">state-owned power plant<\/a> at Bolivar.<\/li>\n<li>A 250MW\/650MWh <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/solar-powerwall-sa-mb0445\/\">virtual power plant<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/solar-microgrid-markets-mb0447\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South Australian Produce Market microgrid<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Spencer Gulf pumped hydro energy storage projects.<\/li>\n<li>A 15MW hydrogen electrolyser power plant to be constructed near Port Lincoln.<\/li>\n<li>Funding for ecoJet to further develop a micro gas turbine that burns hydrogen gas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Premier Weatherill has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/solarreserve-solar-thermal-australia-mb0429\/\">previously<\/a> stated this election would be a referendum on renewable energy in the state. Tapping into the popularity of renewables may be a wise move &#8211; a recent poll indicated the majority of South Australians <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/south-australia-renewable-energy-mb0446\/\">are proud<\/a> of the state\u2019s wind and solar power achievements.<\/p>\n<p>SA Labor&#8217;s energy policy document <a href=\"https:\/\/standingupforsouthaustralia.com.au\/media\/1133\/02_2018-policy-document_energy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">can be downloaded here<\/a> (PDF). At the time of writing, it was yet to include the new 75% renewables commitment.<\/p>\n<h2>SA Liberals Will Abolish State Renewable Energy Target<\/h2>\n<p>On the issue of energy, the SA Liberals&#8217; commitments include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A $200 million interconnection fund.<\/li>\n<li>A $100 million home storage subsidy scheme (avg. $2,500 per household for installing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/battery-storage\/comparison-table\/\"> battery systems<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>A $50 million grid scale storage fund.<\/li>\n<li>A requirement for new renewable generators to bring forward energy storage.<\/li>\n<li>$20 million for demand response and demand aggregation trials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The party has also committed to abolishing the state-based renewable energy target in favour of a national policy mechanism (i.e., the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/coag-meeting-neg-mb0326\/\">NEG<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Liberal Energy Solution&#8221; can be <a href=\"https:\/\/strongplan.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/4-302-OFF-ANNUAL-HOUSEHOLDS-ELECTRICITY-BILLS.pdf\">downloaded here<\/a> (PDF).<\/p>\n<h2>SA Greens &#8211; 100% Renewables By 2025<\/h2>\n<p>It won&#8217;t come as any surprise the SA Greens have big plans for renewables and fossil fuels.
