{"id":19521,"date":"2018-02-27T05:39:23","date_gmt":"2018-02-26T19:09:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/?p=19521"},"modified":"2024-05-15T13:52:41","modified_gmt":"2024-05-15T04:22:41","slug":"stockland-solar-power-installation-mb0481","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/stockland-solar-power-installation-mb0481\/","title":{"rendered":"Installation Of Australian Shopping Centre&#8217;s Monster Solar Project Begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_19522\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19522\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19522\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/stockland-solar-panels.jpg\" alt=\"Stockland solar panels installation\" width=\"700\" height=\"428\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/stockland-solar-panels.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/stockland-solar-panels-300x183.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-19522\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image: Stockland Green Hills<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Installation work on a huge commercial solar power system has commenced at Stockland Green Hills in New South Wales &#8211; and electric vehicle chargers are also on their way.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Part of the East Maitland shopping centre&#8217;s $414 million redevelopment, the 1.863 MW rooftop system made up of 5,480 solar panels will generate an estimated 2.77 gigawatt hours of clean electricity annually.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We\u2019re extremely proud to be installing this solar project at Stockland Green Hills which will help create clean, green energy for our retailers, our customers and the community,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stockland.com.au\/media-centre\/media-releases\/stockland-green-hills-invests-in-green-energy-with-installation-of-solar-and-ev-chargers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Peter Hugh, Stockland Green Hills Project Director. &#8220;Solar is an important step for renewable energy in Australia, playing an important role in the transition to a lower carbon energy future.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s more than just about the environmental warm and fuzzies of course, as solar energy makes good financial sense for the company.<\/p>\n<p>Installation of the system, being carried out by Todae Solar, is expected to be completed in May.<\/p>\n<p>Also on the horizon for the shopping centre are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/ev-chargers\/public\/\">electric vehicle charging facilities<\/a>, which will be the first EV chargers to be installed in Maitland at a commercial premises. From March 22, two Tesla Destination and two Chargepoint charging stations will be located in a car park (Stronach Avenue access point), which will be free to use by Stockland Green Hills customers.<\/p>\n<p>While a first for Maitland, the chargers aren&#8217;t the first for Stockland, which has 33 Tesla and 22 Chargepoint free charging facilities in 19 locations throughout Australia.<\/p>\n<h2>Other Sustainability-Related Features<\/h2>\n<p>The redevelopment of the mall is designed to achieve a 4 star Green Star &#8216;design&#8217; and &#8216;as built&#8217; rating. Aside from solar energy, among other green features of the redevelopment are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0LED lighting with occupancy sensors<\/li>\n<li>Water efficient toilets, taps, showers and waterless urinals<\/li>\n<li>A 450,000-litre onsite rainwater storage system<\/li>\n<li>Water and energy monitoring systems<\/li>\n<li>Low volatile organic compound flooring, paints and adhesives<\/li>\n<li>Subsoil irrigation in gardens with timers and moisture sensors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Green Hills PV project is part of Stockland&#8217;s $23.5 million <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/stockland-solar-power-rollout-mb0258\/\"> national rollout of solar power<\/a>, which the company says is Australia&#8217;s largest retail property solar program. Once fully complete, the project is expected to generate 17.2 GWh of solar electricity per annum.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stockland.com.au\/media-centre\/media-releases\/stockland-wetherill-park-switches-on-solar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> grid connection of a $2 million, 925 kW single rooftop solar system at Stockland Wetherill Park Shopping Centre (NSW) that will generate the equivalent of 23 per cent of the centre\u2019s annual base building electricity requirements.<\/p>\n<h2>Solar Power &#8211; For Businesses Large And Small<\/h2>\n<p>Businesses don&#8217;t have to be the size of Stockland to benefit from commercial solar power.
