The decision has been referred to as the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/trump-solar-tax-mb0427\/\">Trump Solar Tax<\/a>,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/trump-solar-tariffs\/\">Trump Solar Tariffs<\/a>&#8220;, but is more formally known as the Solar Products Safeguard Measure.<\/p>\n<p>The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) in now in the process of considering applications to exclude certain products from the tariffs.<\/p>\n<p>Among the solar panel manufacturers looking for exemptions to the Solar Products Safeguard Measure (links point to exclusion requests):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/document?D=USTR-2018-0001-0040\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Solar<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Hanwha Q-Cells &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/document?D=USTR-2018-0001-0050\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/document?D=USTR-2018-0001-0051\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/document?D=USTR-2018-0001-0048\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/document?D=USTR-2018-0001-0023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">REC Group<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/document?D=USTR-2018-0001-0013\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Panasonic<\/a><\/li>\n<li>LG\u00a0 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/document?D=USTR-2018-0001-0054\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/document?D=USTR-2018-0001-0037\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/document?D=USTR-2018-0001-0053\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SolarWorld Industries GmbH<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/document?D=USTR-2018-0001-0020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SunPower<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/contentStreamer?documentId=USTR-2018-0001-0028&amp;attachmentNumber=1&amp;contentType=pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JinkoSolar<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>SolarWorld Are Cheeky Buggers<\/h2>\n<p>SolarWorld Industries GmbH being on the list with their cap in hand will no doubt draw some ire.<\/p>\n<p>The Solar Products Safeguard Measure is the end result of a petition from Suniva, Inc., that was later joined by SolarWorld Americas, Inc. &#8211; which was at that point a subsidiary of SolarWorld AG.<\/p>\n<p>SolarWorld AG subsequently went bankrupt, then was acquired by a group of investors and revived as SolarWorld Industries GmbH.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Frank Asbeck, who was Founder and\u00a0 CEO of SolarWorld AG, is also Founder and Managing Director of SolarWorld Industries GmbH &#8211; and one of the group of investors.<\/p>\n<p>However, SolarWorld Industries Americas was not part of the buyout and is now a separate US entity. You can read more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/solarworld-ag-is-dead\/\">SolarWorld saga here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In comments accompanying its exclusion request, SolarWorld Industries <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/document?D=USTR-2018-0001-0053\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">says<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;SolarWorld Industries&#8217; products are complementary to U.S. products and do not cause injury in any form to the U.S. manufacturers, but instead jointly support the competitiveness and development of the U.S. high-quality and sustainability market. While also targeting the unhealthy dominance of low quality imports in the U.S. market.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>U.S Rejects EU Solar Tariff Alternatives<\/h2>\n<p>In related news, Greentech Media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greentechmedia.com\/articles\/read\/us-rejects-eu-solar-tariff-alternative-at-the-wto#gs.wkAfob4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> reports<\/a> the US has rejected EU alternatives to the safeguard tariff.
