Jinko MX solar panels are not coming to Australia.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Last Tuesday I went to Sydney to attend the Smart Energy Conference &amp; Exhibition.\u00a0 I learned many things, one being that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jinko-smart.com\/maxim.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jinko Maxim panels<\/a> that use use cell string optimization &#8212; described in\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/maxim-just-killed-microinverter-dc-optimiser\/\">this article<\/a> &#8212; will not be sold in Australia because they were unable to stop them interfering with television reception.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Other knowledge I obtained included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sydney is built on a smaller scale than the rest of Australia.\u00a0 Presumably because it was built by under-nourished, 4 feet tall, British convicts.\u00a0 Adelaide was built convict-free and feels a lot roomier, and we all know Queensland was built by giants.<\/li>\n<li>They forgot to put prices on the vending machines in Sydney.\u00a0 Given they charge one million dollars for a house similar in size to my garden shed I was too scared to use them in case I was charged $19 for a bottle of lolly water.\u00a0 This is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accc.gov.au\/business\/pricing-surcharging\/displaying-prices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">clear violation<\/a> of Australian Consumer Law.<\/li>\n<li>The final kilometer of train track to Sydney Airport must have been incredibly difficult and expensive to build because the ticket price suddenly jumps from $3 to $18.\u00a0 I wonder where the monument to all the people who died building it is?\u00a0 It would have to have been like boring the tunnels for the Snowy Mountains Scheme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_20822\" style=\"width: 1610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20822\" class=\"wp-image-20822 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/MVIMG_20180410_210915-EFFECTS.jpg\" alt=\"International Convention Centre, Sydney. 2018 Smart Energy Conference\" width=\"1600\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/MVIMG_20180410_210915-EFFECTS.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/MVIMG_20180410_210915-EFFECTS-300x159.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/MVIMG_20180410_210915-EFFECTS-768x408.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/MVIMG_20180410_210915-EFFECTS-1024x544.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-20822\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The International Convention Centre in Sydney. Venue for the 2018 Smart Energy Conference. <em>Photo Credit: Finn<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>I also happened to learn some stuff about solar power tech and batteries and stuff like that.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll reveal my new knowledge in articles over the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<h2>What Is Maxim Panel Cell String Optimization?<\/h2>\n<p>A typical <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/comparison\/compare-solar-panels\/\">solar panel<\/a> has three cell strings with 20 solar cells in each.\u00a0 If a bird poops on just one of those 20 cells it can knock the entire cell string out of commission until the rain washes it away or someone <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/how-to-clean-solar-panels\/\">gives it a clean<\/a>.\u00a0 This soiling will reduce the panel&#8217;s output by one-third.\u00a0 Worse, in most solar systems it will reduce the output of every panel it is attached to by one-third as well.\u00a0 But with panel cell string optimization there are built in electronics that will adjust the output of the dirty string so instead of being knocked out it will continue to supply some power.\u00a0 More importantly, it won&#8217;t result in the performance of other panels being dragged down to its (bird) shitty level.<\/p>\n<p>There are also solar panel optimizers that work in a similar way, but they optimize the output of the entire panel as a whole and not each third of the panel.\u00a0 They will stop a poopy panel from dragging down the output of others, but won&#8217;t be as effective at getting the most out of each individual panel as panel cell string optimization.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/inverters\/micro\/\">Microinverters<\/a> are different kettle of electronic fish, but their effect is similar to panel optimizers as the performance of one panel won&#8217;t effect others.<\/p>\n<h2>TV Reception Interference<\/h2>\n<p>In life, there is many a slip twix cup and lip, with cup in this instance being a television transmitter and the lip being your television screen.\u00a0 The electronics used in cell string optimized panels can interfere with television reception.\u00a0 The problem usually is only\u00a0 noticeable when TV reception is weak to begin with and may be possible to fix by installing a better antenna.<\/p>\n<p>Jinko found their first generation of Maxim optimized panels had this problem and withdrew them from the market.\u00a0 They said their second generation MX solar panels would overcome this drawback and be available early this year.\u00a0 But the problem was not overcome and, rather than deal with people complaining their TV reception is on the fritz, they will not be available.<\/p>\n<h2>Not Available In Australia<\/h2>\n<p>What the Jinko representative I talked said was they would not be available in Australia.\u00a0 Does this mean they will be available in all those countries that don\u2019t have TV?\u00a0 Because there can&#8217;t be very many of them.\u00a0 Even North Korea has TV.<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-wrapper\"><iframe title=\"Ever wondered what North Korean TV looks like?
