Interest in 6kW and larger capacity solar power systems gained steam in June among Australians seeking quotes for solar panels.<\/p>\n

Solar System Size Preference<\/h2>\n

Enquiries regarding 6kW solar systems<\/a> continued to build, comprising 28% of quote requests last month where a size was specified. This was up from 24% in May and 21% in April. Many Australians were also interested in even larger systems, with around 17% requesting quotes<\/a> on 6kW+, similar to May. Interest in 5kW dropped to 37% compared to just under 40% in May. 31.4% of overall quote requests asked for advice on choosing a solar system size<\/a>, down again a little from May.<\/p>\n

Intended Purchase Timeframe<\/h2>\n

There was a significant uptick in the proportion of Australians using our service wanting to purchase a system immediately – from 15% in May to just over 17% in June – so back to April levels. For a timeframe of anywhere from now to 3 months, the figure was 79%, compared to May’s 77% and April\u2019s 75%.<\/p>\n

\"Solar<\/p>\n

Price And Quality<\/h2>\n

Things were fairly steady again in June in relation to price vs. quality stakes, with approximately 79% requesting quotes for systems that were \u201ca good mix of quality and price\u201d.\u00a0 The \u201cgood budget system\u201d option gained a little more ground again, reaching approximately 8% and the \u201ctop quality (most expensive)\u201d dropped back a bit to around the 13% mark.<\/p>\n

\"Solar<\/p>\n

Battery Ready Solar Systems<\/h2>\n

There was movement in battery-ready system interest, with it dropping from May’s 33% to 29% – the same as April. While all solar power systems can be considered ” battery-ready” these days, we ask this question to assist potential installers in understanding the customer’s future intentions, as this may influence system design.<\/p>\n

Solar + Battery System Option<\/h2>\n

During June, just under 10% requested quotes for a concurrent solar panel + battery system installation – very little difference compared to May. As we mentioned in the last auSSII, May’s result was nearly twice April\u2019s figure (5.2%) as during that month we removed a flag on the quoting form when solar + batteries are selected providing approximate price range and offering a battery-ready option instead.<\/p>\n

Preferences In Battery System Sizing<\/h2>\n

For those wanting solar batteries<\/a> with their system and had a capacity range in mind, ~32% were after 10kWh+ capacity (down from May’s 40% and April’s 48%). Again in June, the most requested battery size range was 5 \u2013 10kWh (~48% compared to ~45% in May). 57% of overall solar battery related quote request asked for guidance on capacity, similar to May.<\/p>\n

\"Battery<\/p>\n

Battery Applications – Primary Use<\/h2>\n

Around 4% wanted to install a battery primarily for backup purposes – this figure has been between 2% and 4% over the months we’ve been doing the auSSII.\u00a0 46% said they wanted a battery for\u00a0 minimising grid electricity use\u00a0 (44% in May) and approximately 51%\u00a0 for both applications (54% in May, 53% in April).<\/p>\n

Quarterly Electricity Bills<\/h2>\n

Approximately 46% of Australians using our service said they had quarterly electricity bills averaging $500 \u2013 $1,000 (44% in May). Around 10% reported quarterly electricity costs of $1,000 or greater (12% in May, April and March). 8% were unsure of what they paid per quarter on average (May figure was 6%). The figure was also more than in April and March, which were around 7%.<\/p>\n
