{"id":22719,"date":"2018-07-09T06:03:10","date_gmt":"2018-07-08T19:33:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/?p=22719"},"modified":"2018-07-09T06:03:10","modified_gmt":"2018-07-08T19:33:10","slug":"tasmania-solar-review-mb0657","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/tasmania-solar-review-mb0657\/","title":{"rendered":"Tasmania&#8217;s Solar Feed-In Tariff Review Kicks Off"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_22720\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22720\" class=\"size-full wp-image-22720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/tasmania-solar-review.jpg\" alt=\"Tasmania solar feed in tariff review\" width=\"700\" height=\"396\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/tasmania-solar-review.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/tasmania-solar-review-300x170.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-22720\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image: Department of State Growth, Tasmania<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Solar owners and supporters in Tasmania have been invited to provide their feedback on the future of Tasmania&#8217;s solar feed-in tariff.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Hodgman Liberal Government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/tasmania-solar-tariff-mb0489\/\">committed to review and reshape<\/a> the state&#8217;s solar feed-in tariff during the election campaign, with the results of a review to be implemented by 1 January 2019. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/tasmania-solar-tariff-review-mb0645\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Concerns were raised recently<\/a> when after more than 100 days back in office, there didn&#8217;t appear to be any action on the review.<\/p>\n<p>However, on the weekend the Government announced a consultation paper for a review had been published and public submissions were invited.<\/p>\n<p>The review, which will be carried out by a committee consisting of the Director of Energy Planning, the Department of State Growth and the Department of Treasury and Finance, will consider a range of issues including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>incentives for installing solar generation<\/li>\n<li>variable pricing between peak and non-peak periods (aka time-varying and time-dependent tariffs)<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/tasmania-solar-review-mb0657\/#en-22719-1' id='enref-22719-1' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(22719)'>1<\/a><\/sup>.<\/li>\n<li>access to rooftop solar across the community<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The aim of the review is to provide the right conditions and incentives to encourage further take up of solar, while ensuring Tasmanians who have already installed solar are suitably rewarded,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.premier.tas.gov.au\/releases\/solar_feed-in_tariff_review_begins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> a statement attributed to Peter Gutwein, Acting Minister for Energy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Rooftop solar generation currently makes up less than one per cent of electricity generation in Tasmania, but the Hodgman Government says more solar power will help Tasmania diversify its renewable energy capacity.<\/p>\n<h2>Discussion Paper Points<\/h2>\n<p>Those lodging submissions are invited to comment on the following, plus add any other feedback:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Suggested changes to reward those who have already installed solar systems and to promote further uptake of solar panels.<\/li>\n<li>The impacts of such changes &#8211; beneficial or otherwise.<\/li>\n<li>Rooftop solar&#8217;s contribution to Tasmania&#8217;s energy security.<\/li>\n<li>The social and environmental benefits and costs of rooftop solar electricity generation.<\/li>\n<li>Whether the benefits outweigh the costs.<\/li>\n<li>Alternative mechanisms for promoting solar energy.<\/li>\n<li>The potential for rooftop solar, smart meters and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/battery-storage\/comparison-table\/\"> battery systems<\/a> to help manage peak demand.<\/li>\n<li>Equity of access to the technology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The discussion paper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stategrowth.tas.gov.au\/__data\/assets\/pdf_file\/0020\/172433\/Solar_Feed-in_Tariff_Review_Consultation_Document.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">can be downloaded here<\/a> (PDF). Submissions can be made until Monday, 6 August 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/systems\/feed-in-tariffs\/tas\/\">Tasmania&#8217;s solar feed in tariff<\/a> is set at 8.541 c\/kWh for those not grandfathered under the older and more generous legacy FiT (which expires at the end of this year).
