{"id":23714,"date":"2018-08-22T06:37:37","date_gmt":"2018-08-21T20:07:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/?p=23714"},"modified":"2018-08-22T06:37:37","modified_gmt":"2018-08-21T20:07:37","slug":"victoria-microgrid-grants-mb0716","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/victoria-microgrid-grants-mb0716\/","title":{"rendered":"Victorian Government To Splash Out More Cash For Microgrids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23715\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/latrobe-microgrid-program.jpg\" alt=\"Latrobe Valley microgrid program\" width=\"800\" height=\"429\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/latrobe-microgrid-program.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/latrobe-microgrid-program-300x161.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/latrobe-microgrid-program-768x412.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Andrews Labor Government has announced a new $3 million grant program in the Latrobe Valley to support the development of microgrids that benefit local business\/industry customers.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>A microgrid is a<span class=\"st\" data-hveid=\"45\" data-ved=\"0ahUKEwj-gtbbm4XYAhVBQLwKHbJbBxkQ4EUILTAA\"> local network of electricity generation and storage sources that can operate either connected to the mains grid or disconnected from it when required;\u00a0 for example, when there&#8217;s a blackout<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Projects eligible for the Latrobe Valley Microgrid Grant Program (LVMP) include microgrids, virtual power plants and smart embedded networks where renewables are the primary energy source.<\/p>\n<p>The LVMP&#8217;s aims:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lower the cost of electricity for participating businesses<\/li>\n<li>Result in attracting new business or the expansion and retention of existing businesses<\/li>\n<li>Create direct and indirect jobs<\/li>\n<li>Stimulate investment<\/li>\n<li>Support the Latrobe Valley&#8217;s transition to a low-emission economy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Latrobe Valley is no stranger to electricity generation &#8211;\u00a0 it&#8217;s traditionally been a significant source of this country&#8217;s related emissions given the amount of brown coal burned by power stations located in the region. The closure of Hazelwood Power Station in March 2017 had a marked effect in reducing Australia&#8217;s electricity sector emissions, but Loy Yang A, Loy Yang B and Yallourn remain.<\/p>\n<p>Many see renewables as the way forward for the Latrobe Valley, including the Andrews Government &#8211; with the LVMP to play a small but important role.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe\u2019re ensuring businesses in the Latrobe Valley have access to cheap, clean, and reliable energy,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.premier.vic.gov.au\/new-microgrid-program-for-the-latrobe-valley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D\u2019Ambrosio. \u201cThis microgrid program will mean local businesses can save money and strengthen investment in the local economy.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Organisations eligible to apply for the LVMP will be those that operate in the state, can demonstrate at least three years&#8217; operational history and will meet a minimum $3 funding to each dollar of government cash.<\/p>\n<p>Applications close at 2pm, 17 September 2018. Successful projects will need to be completed by June 2022. Further details on the LVMP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.vic.gov.au\/microgrids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The new program is an add-on to the Government\u2019s $10 million <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/victoria-nejf-microgrid-mb0362\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microgrid Demonstration Program<\/a> available across the state that was announced in December last year. Successful applicants of that scheme, which will provide grants of between $100,000 and $5 million, will be announced shortly.<\/p>\n<h2>Walking The Renewable Energy Talk<\/h2>\n<p>The Victorian Government has been pulling out all the stops on progressing renewables in the state. On Sunday, it announced a new solar rebate for households that will cut the cost of installing solar panels by 50% (up to a maximum of $2,225) &#8211; that&#8217;s on top of Australia&#8217;s existing major <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/rebate\/\">solar subsidy<\/a>. There&#8217;s also support in the package for solar hot water system purchases. SQ&#8217;s Ronald has provided details on the Solar Homes Package <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/victoria-solar-homes-rebate\/\">here<\/a> and an update with new information <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/victoria-solar-rebate-update\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/victoria-renewable-energy-target-mb0259\/\">Victorian Renewable Energy Target (VRET)<\/a> sets a goal of\u00a0 25 per cent renewables by 2020 and 40 per cent by 2025 &#8211; and it looks like the state will have no problems in reaching it.
