Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says the state does not need Clive Palmer’s proposed 700 MW coal fired power station – and Mr. Palmer is not happy.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Waratah Coal Chairman Clive Palmer announced<\/a> his intention to build a $1.5 billion 700 MW \u201chigh efficiency low emission ultra-supercritical\u201d (HELE<\/a>) coal-fired power station in Queensland\u2019s Galilee Basin.<\/p>\n

Premier Palaszczuk wasn’t impressed, stating<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“Queensland does not need another coal-fired power station. We have the youngest, most efficient fleet of coal-fired power stations in the nation, we are the energy powerhouse.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In an interview with Sky News, Mr Palmer hit back, saying that he didn’t want government money for the project and he wasn’t looking for handouts. He’s also threatened legal action if the proposal is blocked.<\/p>\n

“Of course we’ll take her to court and give her a good touch-up,” said<\/a> a clearly irate Mr. Palmer. ” She needs it, she’s done nothing as Premier for many, many years.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It was an interesting choice of words and the rest of his tirade was if nothing else, entertaining (and a little disturbing) – reminiscent of Joh Bjelke-Petersen’s “Joh-speak”.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Mr. Palmer also released a video under the banner of his United Australia Party on Australian electricity prices; leading in to his coal power plant announcement.<\/p>\n
