We&#8217;ve certainly seen a major uptick in Victorians <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/quote\/\">requesting solar quotes<\/a> via the free service offered here on SolarQuotes.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;10,000 homeowners installing 4kW solar systems would add 40MW of new solar power to the grid \u2013 more than the new 34MW Cohuna Solar Farm, announced as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/victoria-wind-solar-projects-mb0739\/\"> Victorian Renewable Energy Target auction<\/a>,&#8221; states a Victorian Government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.premier.vic.gov.au\/applications-now-open-for-half-price-solar-panel-rebates\/\">press release<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>VIC Solar Rebate Application Process<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/victoria-solar-rebate-update\/\">As previously mentioned<\/a>, the rebate is available to Victorians with a household income of less than $180,000 who are the owners and occupiers of a property valued at less than $3 million at which the solar panels will be installed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Existing Installations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The rebate applies to installations that occurred on or after 19 August 2018. For households that have already had a system installed, the <a href=\"https:\/\/analytics-au.clickdimensions.com\/cn\/a7n4a\/PostInstall_v4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">form to claim the rebate is here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll need to supply:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Council rates notice for the installation address.<\/li>\n<li>Australian Tax Office Notice of Assessment for the 2016-17 or 2017-18 financial year for all home owners of the installation address.<\/li>\n<li>Certificate of Electrical Safety.<\/li>\n<li>PV STC Assignment Form.<\/li>\n<li>Distributor&#8217;s Solar Connection Form or Micro Embedded Generator Connection Form if connected to the mains grid.<\/li>\n<li>Electrical Work Request Form.<\/li>\n<li>Receipt including total cost of system installation, any discounts and rebates applied (e.g. STCs), and any amount outstanding on the system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>New Installations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For those who are yet to have solar power installed but have selected a system and installer, they will need to complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/analytics-au.clickdimensions.com\/cn\/a7n4a\/PreInstallElig_v4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rebate applicant eligibility form here<\/a>. You&#8217;ll need to supply:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Council rates notice from the last 12 months.<\/li>\n<li>Australian Tax Office Notice of Assessment for the 2016-17 or 2017-18 financial year for all home owners of the installation address.<\/li>\n<li>A completed\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/mash.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Solar-Victoria-Provider-Statement-Energy-Matters.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Solar Provider Statement<\/a> (PDF).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Solar Provider Statement is a declaration from the installation company that it will install a quality system for the applicant that meets the eligibility requirements of the rebate.<\/p>\n<p>Households approved for the Solar Homes subsidy will be provided with an eligibility number and a link to apply for the rebate once the solar power system is installed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You must have your rebate approved and be in possesion of an eligibility number before you get your solar installed. If you don&#8217;t, you won&#8217;t get the rebate.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Information that is missing at this point is how long applications will take to process and the timeframe for the rebate to be issued. Rebates will initially be provided to householders directly, followed by a new process enabling installers to factor in the rebate as part of their invoicing. Also not clear is what to do in the case of a Council rates notice in some circumstances &#8211; e.g. a new build or recent acquisition.<\/p>\n<p>Further notes on applying for the rebate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solar.vic.gov.au\/Apply-for-a-rebate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">are here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Victorian Government is also providing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solar.vic.gov.au\/Solar-Hot-Water-Rebate\">$1,000 rebate<\/a> on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.solarhotwaterquotes.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">solar hot water systems<\/a> for 6,000 households &#8211;\u00a0 applications for those rebates will open soon.<\/p>\n<h2>Watch Out For Scams And Shonks<\/h2>\n<p>While not all 10,000+ who have already registered their interest will buy systems, it&#8217;s safe to assume that the 10k figure will be achieved quite quickly. This first stage<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/victoria-solar-rebate-application-mb0747\/#en-24313-1' id='enref-24313-1' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(24313)'>1<\/a><\/sup> of the program is funded until June 2019 with enough cash to cover around 24,000 installations.<\/p>\n<p>While the level of interest creates a sense of urgency given the limited funding, households should <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/victorian-solar-rebate.html\">exercise care<\/a> to ensure they invest in a system with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/solar-brands-trust.html\">good quality components<\/a> optimally installed by a competent professional.<\/p>\n<p>The Solar Provider Statement mentioned above warns those applying for Solar Homes rebate eligibility that they are not required to provide home ownership or income details to an installation company &#8211; and if asked for these details, it should be reported to Consumer Affairs Victoria.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solar.vic.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Solar Victoria<\/a> has also previously warned it has received alerts that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/victoria-solar-homes-scam-mb0733\/\"> scammers have been targeting households<\/a> in the state in connection to the rebate.<\/p>\n<p>The body also says it will be keeping a close eye on system installations.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Safety, compliance and the integrity of the Solar Homes program is of the highest priority for Solar Victoria,&#8221; it states. &#8220;We will conduct regular auditing of compliance requirements and installations to ensure the integrity of the program and safety of installers and householders is achieved.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While of course the hope is that every single installation will contain high quality components that are professionally installed, no doubt there will be issues from time to time &#8211; another reason to be vigilant when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/installers\/choosing\/\">choosing a solar installer<\/a>.
