However, it points out tracking data on distributed small-scale energy storage installations in Australia is problematic, hence the need for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/australia-solar-battery-register-mb0494\/\">national battery database<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead, the report outlines three scenarios out to 2020:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High growth: ~ 450,000 small scale distributed energy storage systems installed in Australia by 2020, representing 3 GWh of storage.<\/li>\n<li>Medium growth: &#8211; ~ 300,000 systems representing 2 GWh of storage.<\/li>\n<li>Low growth &#8211; ~ 150,000 systems representing 1 GWh of storage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_24321\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24321\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24321\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/battery-storage-uptake-australia.png\" alt=\"Projected solar battery uptake in Australia\" width=\"800\" height=\"486\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/battery-storage-uptake-australia.png 800w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/battery-storage-uptake-australia-300x182.png 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/battery-storage-uptake-australia-768x467.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-24321\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Australian Energy Storage Market Analysis 2018 &#8211; Smart Energy Council<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A range of factors will influence how many systems are installed, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Electricity prices<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/battery-storage\/comparison-table\/\">Solar battery prices<\/a> and energy storage costs generally.<\/li>\n<li>Federal, State and Territory government policies and incentives<\/li>\n<li>Industry standards<\/li>\n<li>Availability of trained installers<\/li>\n<li>Public perceptions of safety and quality<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On the incentives front for batteries, the South Australian government recently announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/sa-battery-rebate-information\/\">further details<\/a> of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/sa-home-battery-subsidy-mb0736\/\">Home Battery Scheme<\/a>, which aims to support 40,000 South Australian households in installing energy storage. Last week, the Victorian government also committed to providing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/victoria-wind-solar-projects-mb0739\/#battery-rebate\">rebates on solar batteries<\/a> for 10,000 households &#8211; if re-elected in November.<\/p>\n<h2>Energy Storage Jobs<\/h2>\n<p>A survey by the Smart Energy Council found more than 2,000 Australians are directly employed in the energy storage sector. Under the low-growth scenario in the report, 20,000 Australians could be working directly or indirectly in energy storage in 2020, rising to up to 35,000 in the high growth scenario.<\/p>\n<h2>Large Scale Storage<\/h2>\n<p>The report also identifies 55\u00a0 proposed large-scale energy storage projects (excluding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/pumped-hydro-storage-australia-mb0218\/\">pumped hydro<\/a>, but including Virtual Power Plants) in Australia, representing more than 4 GWh of storage.
