{"id":25900,"date":"2018-11-19T05:55:57","date_gmt":"2018-11-18T19:25:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/?p=25900"},"modified":"2018-11-19T13:37:06","modified_gmt":"2018-11-19T03:07:06","slug":"queensland-battery-grants-mb0828","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/queensland-battery-grants-mb0828\/","title":{"rendered":"Queensland Solar Battery Grant\/Loan Scheme Starts Today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25903\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/queensland-battery-grants-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"895\" height=\"511\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/queensland-battery-grants-2.png 895w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/queensland-battery-grants-2-300x171.png 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/queensland-battery-grants-2-768x438.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 895px) 100vw, 895px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While the QLD Government says its battery and solar + storage grants and loans are the next wave in the state&#8217;s renewable energy revolution, its effect will be more of a ripple.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Energy Minister Dr Anthony Lynham announced a long-awaited grants and loans scheme to assist Queensland households and small businesses in installing home batteries or solar + battery storage will start today.<\/p>\n<p>Grants of $3,000 and interest-free loans of up to $10,000 will be available for 1,000 combined solar and battery storage systems, along with grants of $3,000 and interest-free loans of up to $6,000 for 500 battery systems.\u00a0 The interest-free loans are repayable over 10 years.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cJust as we have one of the highest penetrations of rooftop solar in the world, we are aspiring to be a world leader in battery storage,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/statements.qld.gov.au\/Statement\/2018\/11\/18\/battery-grants-drive-next-renewable-wave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Minister Lynham.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>More than 586,157 small-scale <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/solar101.html\">solar power<\/a> systems are already installed in the state, so 500 battery systems for retrofits represents less than one-tenth of one percent of existing systems. The percentage also takes into account those who already have energy storage installed (estimated by Minister Lynham at 2,500)<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/queensland-battery-grants-mb0828\/#en-25900-1' id='enref-25900-1' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(25900)'>1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Eligibility criteria didn&#8217;t turn out to be quite as restrictive as the first stage of this program &#8211; the solar-only loans aspect &#8211; which SQ&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/qld-interest-free-solar-loan\/\">Ronald has written about previously<\/a>. That being the case, the grants\/loans may be snapped up quite quickly.<\/p>\n<h2>Eligibility Details<\/h2>\n<p>Eligibility criteria include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For residential premises, at least one person applying must be the owner or joint owner of the home.<\/li>\n<li>Small businesses, body corporates and trusts will only be able to apply for a grant.<\/li>\n<li>Small businesses must consume less than 100 megawatt hours of grid electricity each year at the premises and employ fewer than 20 full time employees (or equivalent). The applicant, as well as owning and operating the business, must own the business premises.<\/li>\n<li>You won&#8217;t be eligible for a solar + battery grant if you have an existing solar power system installed at your premises or are financing a system through a solar power purchase agreement or solar lease.<\/li>\n<li>You won\u2019t be eligible to apply for a battery loan and grant if you are receiving the 44 cent feed-in tariff under Queensland&#8217;s legacy Solar Bonus Scheme.<\/li>\n<li>The system must be installed by an eligible battery energy storage system supplier, a list of which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qld.gov.au\/community\/cost-of-living-support\/concessions\/energy-concessions\/solar-battery-rebate\/eligible-suppliers-systems\/battery-suppliers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">can be found here<\/a><sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/queensland-battery-grants-mb0828\/#en-25900-2' id='enref-25900-2' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(25900)'>2<\/a><\/sup>. in South Australia, we&#8217;re number one in line.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Queensland isn&#8217;t the first Australian state to offer a battery subsidy &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/sa-battery-subsidy-update\/\">South Australia&#8217;s Home Battery Scheme<\/a> kicked off in late October (40,000 systems).<\/p>\n<p>The Victorian Labor government has also committed to providing subsidies of up to $5,000 for 10,000 households to install solar battery storage;
