Approximately 710 ha is proposed to be developed for the solar farm, which will consist of somewhere between 800,000 to 1,000,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/\">solar panels<\/a> mounted on single axis tracking mounting systems. It&#8217;s expected the project will generate around 577,000 MWh of clean electricity a year, enough to provide the electricity needs of equivalent to 130,000 New South Wales households.<\/p>\n<p>Edify <a href=\"https:\/\/majorprojects.accelo.com\/public\/75f1d20c829def250dd949549bd9ea53\/Darlington%20Point%20EIS%20-Main%20Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">says<\/a> provision will also be made to enable installation of battery storage in the future. While the capacity of the energy storage aspect hasn&#8217;t been specified, Edify Energy notes of the $407 million total investment, $353 million is earmarked for the solar farm and $54 million for the battery energy storage system (BESS), which is expected to occupy a 2 ha footprint.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26518\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/darlington-point-solar-site.jpg\" alt=\"Darlington Point Solar Farm development site\" width=\"800\" height=\"448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/darlington-point-solar-site.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/darlington-point-solar-site-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/darlington-point-solar-site-768x430.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The company anticipates a peak workforce of approximately 300 during the solar energy plant&#8217;s construction phase and approximately 5 full-time employees during operations over its expected 30-year service life. There will be an emphasis on local content in the project&#8217;s construction, amounting to approximately 42% of capital invested.<\/p>\n<p>With approval now granted, construction of Darlington Point Solar Farm is expected to start soon.<\/p>\n<p>As well as Darlington Point, Edify&#8217;s solar <a href=\"http:\/\/edifyenergy.com\/#projects\">portfolio<\/a> includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/gannawarra-shire-solar-mb0755\/\">Gannawarra<\/a> (PV and storage), Whitsunday, Hamilton, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/hayman-daydream-solar-farms-mb0172\/\">Daydream and Hayman<\/a> solar farms.<\/p>\n<h2>Project Unopposed<\/h2>\n<p>The Department noted there were no submissions opposing the project. On a related note, yesterday we reported the release of DoPE&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/nsw-large-scale-solar-mb0861\/\">Large-Scale Solar Guideline<\/a>, which aims to ensure impacts of solar farms are assessed with best practice methods, in a consistent manner and with local communities &#8220;front and centre&#8221; in considerations.<\/p>\n<p>49 large-scale solar projects have been approved across NSW to date by the State Government and regional planning panels, representing a total capacity of more than 3300 MW &#8211;
