{"id":29041,"date":"2019-03-26T10:05:20","date_gmt":"2019-03-25T23:35:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/?p=29041"},"modified":"2019-03-26T10:54:24","modified_gmt":"2019-03-26T00:24:24","slug":"solarquotes-vodcast-ep9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/solarquotes-vodcast-ep9\/","title":{"rendered":"SolarQuotes Vodcast Episode 9:  The Approved Solar Retailer Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"youtube-wrapper\"><iframe title=\"SolarQuotes Vodcast #9 - 22\/3\/19\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/02IpOLfESjc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Round 9 of the SolarQuotes Vodcast, where Ronald and I address the worrying development of the CEC Approved Solar Retailer Scheme (ASR) becoming effectively mandatory in Victoria, plus other recent solar news.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"yt-simple-endpoint style-scope yt-formatted-string\" spellcheck=\"false\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=02IpOLfESjc&amp;t=34s\">0:34<\/a>\u00a0Ronald argues that the Clean Energy Council (CEC) Approved Solar Retailer (ASR) Scheme is anti-consumer because in practice it provides no better protection than existing laws and regulations but will increase prices and reduce choice.<\/p>\n<p>I argue that:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The way the scheme has been sold to the industry and the wider public is fundamentally dishonest<\/li>\n<li>Australian Consumer Law is already brilliantly designed to protect consumers &#8211; we just need to get better at educating consumers on their rights and enforcing the law.<\/li>\n<li>The CEC ASR scheme doesn&#8217;t protect people from being charged rip-off prices.<\/li>\n<li>One of the most common problems with shonky retailers is they sell solar power systems that do not work properly. Australian Consumer Law protects against this.<\/li>\n<li>The CEC ASR scheme offers no protection from retailers inflating the financial returns of batteries. I have direct experience of this.<\/li>\n<li>The CEC&#8217;s overriding justification is that they are removing the bad solar retailers from the market. Unfortunately bad retailers have already found their way into the ASR scheme.<\/li>\n<li>For solar company owners operating in Victoria, the reality now is that the CEC have become judge, jury and executioner for your business.<\/li>\n<li>A mandatory ASR scheme will benefit the SolarQuotes\u00ae business but I still think its wrong on principle.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Some of these thoughts were also discussed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/approved-solar-retailer-victoria\/\">in this earlier article<\/a> when rumours were only ASRs would be able to install systems under the Victorian Solar Homes Package scheme.
