solar + battery storage<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parkstay.vic.gov.au\/state-coal-mine-wonthaggi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">State Coal Mine<\/a> is a former state government-owned mine that operated from 1909 until 1968. The mine, which produced almost 17 million tonnes of coal for Victoria&#8217;s industries and railways, is now part of a state park and a tourist attraction.<\/p>\n<p>The Old Energy, New Energy project is an <a href=\"https:\/\/eico-op.org.au\/\"> Energy Innovation Co-op<\/a> initiative. Electricity generated by the system will be sold to Parks Victoria, with the income contributing towards the Southern C.O.R.E (Community Owned Renewable Energy) Fund.<\/p>\n<p>The project was supported with $241,000 from the Victorian Labor Government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.business.vic.gov.au\/support-for-your-business\/grants-and-assistance\/future-industries\/new-energy-technologies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> New Energy Jobs Fund<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to see a facility that was once used to mine coal now leading the way when it comes to renewable energy in tourism,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.premier.vic.gov.au\/old-energy-meets-new-energy-in-wonthaggi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stated<\/a> Minister D&#8217;Ambrosio. \u201cWe want to see more sites like this one transition to renewables \u2013 we\u2019re delivering the investment needed to support that transition.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Energy Innovation Co-op <a href=\"https:\/\/eico-op.org.au\/old-energy-new-energy\/\">says<\/a> &#8220;the system will produce 127 MW clean power per annum&#8221; &#8211; that&#8217;s assumed to mean 127MWh<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/solar-energy-wonthaggi-mb1042\/#en-30059-1' id='enref-30059-1' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(30059)'>1<\/a><\/sup>. Current annual consumption at the site is 112MWh.<\/p>\n<p>The two systems officially launched on Friday will give a nice boost to Wonthaggi&#8217;s already substantial &lt;100kW system capacity numbers.
