Brace yourself for technobabble.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t profess to be familiar with all the technologies mentioned and I&#8217;ve linked to articles relating to some of the terminology where you can learn more.<\/p>\n<h2>Canadian Solar P-Type Poly (Multi) Cell Record<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/canadian-solar-inc-review.html\"> Canadian Solar<\/a> Inc. announced it has set a world record of 22.28% conversion efficiency for its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/p-type-and-n-type-solar-cells-excellent-electron-adventure\/\"> p-type<\/a> multicrystalline P5 cell. The company says the cell was fabricated using 157mmx157mm P5 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/photovoltaic\/polycrystalline\/\">multicrystalline<\/a> wafers and technologies including <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1002\/latj.201290034\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> selective emitter<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S1567173919300793\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> silicon oxide passivation<\/a>, multi-layer anti-reflection coating, aluminum oxide backside passivation, advanced metallization, and Metal Catalyzed Chemical Etch (MCCE).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We are pleased to see Canadian Solar P5 technology set a new world record,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trinasolar.com\/au\/resources\/newsroom\/trina-solar-announces-new-efficiency-record-2458-efficiency-mono-crystalline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> Dr. Shawn Qu, chairman and CEO of Canadian Solar Inc. &#8220;This shows that our multi-crystalline technology can achieve higher efficiencies while still enjoy the cost advantage.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The company says the P5 cell efficiency was tested and certified by Germany&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ise.fraunhofer.de\/en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Fraunhofer ISE<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n<h2>Trina Solar N-Type Mono Cell Record<\/h2>\n<p>Also overnight, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/trina-review.html\">Trina Solar<\/a> Co. Ltd. said its State Key Laboratory (SKL) of PV Science and Technology (PVST) in China has set a new world record of 24.58% for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/p-type-and-n-type-solar-cells-excellent-electron-adventure\/\"> n-type<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/photovoltaic\/monocrystalline\/\">monocrystalline<\/a> silicon i-TOPCon (Industrial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/264129037_Tunnel_oxide_passivated_contacts_as_an_alternative_to_partial_rear_contacts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact<\/a>) solar cell.<\/p>\n<p>Trina says the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/double-glass-glass-glass-bifacial-panels-hell\/\"> bifacial<\/a> solar cell was fabricated from a 244.62 cm2 wafer and has a front boron emitter and a rear full-area passivating contact (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/perc-solar-panel\/\">PERC<\/a>?). It says the front side efficiency of 24.58% was achieved without using any dedicated aperture during the illumination.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c.. to the best of our knowledge, this is the new world record for a total area efficiency for a large-area two-side contact silicon solar cell\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/investors.canadiansolar.com\/news-releases\/news-release-details\/canadian-solar-set-world-record-2228-multi-crystalline-cell\"> said<\/a> Trina Solar CEO Jifan Gao. \u201cThe excellent R&amp;D results lays a solid foundation for Trina to provide a new differentiated high-end PV modules and solutions to our customers.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The company says the result was independently confirmed by Germany&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/isfh.de\/en\/dienstleistungen\/isfh-caltec\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> ISFH CalTeC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While overall <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/\">solar panel efficiency<\/a> will be lower than the figures noted above for modules made with the cells mentioned (due in part to spaces between cells), these are impressive results and it&#8217;s encouraging to see solar companies continuing to push the limits of what can be achieved.<\/p>\n<p>Both Trina and Canadian have been in the solar cell\/panel manufacturing game for some years (the former since 1997 and the latter since 2001) and both appear on SQ&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/solar-brands-trust.html\">trusted solar brands chart<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Solar panel manufacturers Trina and Canadian solar have both laid claim to new solar cell efficiency records.
