The 290 watt modules weigh just 5.5 kilograms each, compared to conventional glass-faced panels weighing in at around 18-19 kilograms. The modules were fixed to Noosaville Library&#8217;s roof using a special adhesive.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe installation was less labour-intensive than traditional glass panels,&#8221; said Noosa Shire Mayor Tony Wellington. \u201cThe non-glass panels also perform better in extreme weather conditions such as hail. With the summer storm season upon us, the timing couldn\u2019t be better.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>By &#8220;perform better&#8221;, it&#8217;s assumed Mayor Wellington was referring to less risk of damage from hail.<\/p>\n<h2>More About eArche Solar Panels<\/h2>\n<p>eArche panels are produced by Sunman (Zhenjiang) Company Limited (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sunman-energy.com\">SunMan Energy<\/a>), whose founder and chief technology officer is Shi Zhengrong &#8211; a man once dubbed the &#8220;Sun King&#8221; and who founded another solar panel manufacturer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/suntech-review.html\">Suntech<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The modules are based on monocrystalline PERC cells and are available in framed and non-framed versions.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s Dr. Shi Zhengrong chatting about the eArche solar panels back in August:<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-wrapper\"><iframe title=\"SunMan Energy presents the new, super-light solar panels of the eArche series\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Hs2oh2xdqtE?start=15&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sunman-energy.com\/Upload\/File_gs9j6ut1c7by.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">datasheet<\/a> for the 290W eArche indicates a module efficiency of 17.1% and a temperature coefficient of Pmax of -0.38 %\/\u00b0C<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/noosaville-flexible-solar-mb1312\/#en-35364-1' id='enref-35364-1' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(35364)'>1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>As well as curved rooftops, lightweight <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/flexible\/\">flexible solar panels<\/a> such as the eArche have applications in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/commercial-solar-guide.html\">commercial solar<\/a> installations where a roof has been constructed to minimum specifications &#8211; what&#8217;s known as a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/slender-roofs-home-solar-mb0534\/\">slender roof<\/a>&#8220;. Slender roofs may be unable to support the weight of a conventional solar panel array.<\/p>\n<p>eArche panels appear to be significantly more costly than conventional modules. I saw 290W eArche solar panels with a thin frame advertised in Australia for $495 (retail), but wasn&#8217;t able to locate any pricing on the 290W frameless version. While more expensive, in a slender roof situation it may prove to be cheaper to use the eArche than to carry out roof strengthening work.<\/p>\n<p>Other significant eArche installations in Australia include a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sea.museum\/about\/media\/media-releases\/media\/2019\/08\/14\/07\/08\/australian-national-maritime-museum-installs-solar-panel-roof\">235 kW system<\/a> recently installed on the rooftop of Australian National Maritime Museum\u2019s Heritage Centre, which is an example of a slender roof\u00a0 installation. eArche solar panels were also used for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/byron-bay-solar-train-mb0361\/\">Byron Bay&#8217;s solar train<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Another Step Towards Carbon Neutrality For Noosa<\/h2>\n<p>Noosa Shire Council has made a commitment to be carbon neutral by 2026, with solar energy playing an important role in achieving that goal.<\/p>\n<p>The Noosaville Library project joins nine other council facilities that have significant solar power installations. Among buildings to get (more) PV capacity is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/noosa-council-solar-mb0967\/\">Tewantin Administration Building<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Wellington said some of the current installations are slashing mains grid electricity consumption by up to 80 per cent and the Noosaville Library project is expected to generate equivalent to half of the facility&#8217;s electricity needs.<\/p>\n<p>In July this year, Noosa Shire Council became the first Queensland local government to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/noosa-melbourne-climate-emergency-mb1137\/\">declare a climate emergency<\/a>.
