As at 6AM this morning, Solar Victoria’s website indicated 578 rebates for home solar power systems remained in January’s first round.<\/p>\n

Victoria’s solar panel rebate<\/a> kicked off 2020 with a release of 2,000 spots at midday on Thursday, January 2. After a delay of around 15 minutes, the web site counter ticked over fairly rapidly initially, then slowed down.<\/p>\n

There hasn’t been word from Solar Victoria about any issues since the release, so it’s assumed all is proceeding normally at their end of things. Aside from the interruption of holidays, what hasn’t been normal is the tragic bushfire situation in Victoria (and elsewhere) that is likely impacting on this round.<\/p>\n

For the first 6 months of 2020, the rebate has been set at up to a maximum value of $1,888, and will then drop slightly to $1,850 for FY 20\/21. Combined with Australia\u2019s major “solar rebate<\/a>“, Victorians can secure a fantastic deal on solar power<\/a> – but it’s important to research and check out installer reviews<\/a> before entering into a contract.<\/p>\n

Under the program, a no-interest loan option is also available and will match the rebate amount \u2013 up to $1,888.<\/p>\n

There will be a second round of 2,000 rebates on January 16, plus any top-up from expired applications. Past January, two releases per month of a minimum 2,500 spots each will occur until the end of June.<\/p>\n

Victorian Battery Rebate Update<\/h2>\n

Over 2019-20, 1,000 rebates of up to $4,838 will be available for a solar battery system<\/a>, released in tranches.<\/p>\n

Solar Victoria’s website indicates<\/a> 276 of the 456 battery rebates<\/a> released in November are still available, with this round closing at the end of February. Part of the reason for slow uptake is the rebate is only available in 59 regional Victoria and 45 Melbourne postcodes.<\/p>\n

When the battery rebate program originally commenced, only 24 postcodes were eligible and uptake was even more sluggish. Postcode eligibility was expanded<\/a> with the release of this round in November. Among the eligibility criteria<\/a>, the battery incentive isn’t available to households that have already received a Solar Homes rebate.<\/p>\n

Other Victorian Rebates And Incentives<\/h2>\n

Under the Solar Homes Package, other incentives include a solar hot water rebate<\/a> and a rebate of up to $1,888 for landlords installing panels on rental properties<\/a>, along with an option for an interest-free loan.<\/p>\n

The aim of the Solar Homes program is to support the installation of solar panels, solar hot water systems or batteries for 770,000 homes across the state over ten years; bringing the state’s total to more than one million residential renewable energy systems installed throughout Victoria by the time the program is complete.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
