{"id":38365,"date":"2020-03-23T06:35:18","date_gmt":"2020-03-22T20:05:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/?p=38365"},"modified":"2020-03-23T06:35:18","modified_gmt":"2020-03-22T20:05:18","slug":"clean-energy-stimulus-mb1454","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/clean-energy-stimulus-mb1454\/","title":{"rendered":"CEC Calls For Clean Energy Stimulus Package"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_38366\" style=\"width: 1210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38366\" class=\"size-full wp-image-38366\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/clean-energy-stimulus.jpg\" alt=\"Clean energy stimulus - CEC\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/clean-energy-stimulus.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/clean-energy-stimulus-300x158.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/clean-energy-stimulus-1024x538.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/clean-energy-stimulus-768x403.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-38366\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image: <a href=\"https:\/\/pixabay.com\/photos\/solar-panels-installation-workers-1794467\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">skeeze<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s Clean Energy Council is lobbying federal, state and territory governments to make renewables and energy storage a key part COVID-19 response packages.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The CEC wrote to governments across the country on Friday, urging them to implement a series of initiatives, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The direct funding of installation of solar panels on public and low-income rental housing to reduce electricity bills of those who need the most support, while providing much needed-employment.<\/li>\n<li>The rollout of solar and storage for all critical infrastructure.<\/li>\n<li>A new rebate for solar batteries for homes and businesses.<\/li>\n<li>Accelerating the rollout of rooftop solar and batteries for schools, childcare facilities and government buildings.<\/li>\n<li>Accelerating and increasing funding for microgrids, stand-alone power systems, community batteries and other bushfire recovery\/resilience programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Adopting these initiatives will help to save jobs in the renewable energy industry, boost the economy and reduce energy costs for consumers,&#8221; states the CEC.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Turning to large-scale renewables, the CEC says governments should accelerate programs including Queensland&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.business.qld.gov.au\/industries\/mining-energy-water\/energy\/renewable\/projects-queensland\/renewables-400\">RE400<\/a> and the Australian Energy Market Operator&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/aemo-2020-isp-evil\/\"> Integrated System Plan<\/a>. On a related note, it wants to see prioritising of strategic interconnections and upgrades to Australia&#8217;s transmission network, which the CEC says will unlock investment and construction in new renewable energy generation in regional areas throughout Australia.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The economic response to COVID-19 provides a golden opportunity for governments to accelerate such plans, providing much needed stimulus to the economy while simultaneously accelerating the move to a cheaper, more reliable energy system.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Relevant Support Already Announced<\/h2>\n<p>In terms of what is available already for solar and storage (for business) under stimulus measures,\u00a0 the Federal Government recently boosted the instant asset write-off threshold from $30,000 to $150,000 and expanded access to include businesses with aggregated annual turnover of less than $500 million (up from $50 million) until 30 June 2020; a move that was welcomed by the CEC.<\/p>\n<p>SQ&#8217;s Ronald has written about how this applies to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/commercial-solar-write-off\/\">commercial solar here<\/a>, and also how a second incentive called &#8220;Boosting Business Investment&#8221; available until 30th of June 2021 can be of benefit for the installation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/commercial-solar-guide.html\">commercial solar power systems<\/a>.
