Around half a dozen major projects are in the pipeline for the region, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au\/major-projects\/project\/9531\" hreflang=\"en\">Maryvale Solar Farm<\/a> (125 MW)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au\/major-projects\/project\/5311\" hreflang=\"en\">Wellington Solar Farm<\/a> (174 MW)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au\/major-projects\/project\/9746\" hreflang=\"en\">Wellington North Solar Farm<\/a> (300 MW)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au\/major-projects\/project\/3521\" hreflang=\"en\">Suntop Solar Farm<\/a> (170 MW)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au\/major-projects\/project\/9426\" hreflang=\"en\">Suntop Stage 2 Solar Farm<\/a> (165 MW)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au\/major-projects\/project\/9411\" hreflang=\"en\">Mumbil Solar Farm<\/a> (140 MW)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>.. so, approximately 1,074 MW of solar power capacity in total.<\/p>\n<p>Big solar projects require big numbers of workers, but the town of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/location\/wellington-2820-nsw\/\">Wellington<\/a>, population around 4,000, isn&#8217;t geared to handle that sort of influx.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s looking as though the responsibility will be placed on developers to put accommodation in place at any of six sites so far identified. The Wellington Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellingtontimes.com.au\/story\/6722158\/five-sites-found-to-be-suitable-for-temporary-workers-accommodation\/\">reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Now the research has been undertaken, Cr Grant said it could be utilised by any solar farm looking to set up temporary accommodation.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Councillor David Grant hopes a temporary village will encourage solar farm workers to stay (and spend) locally. The town missed out when the gaol was built, with most of the workers staying outside of Wellington.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s going to cost developers a significant chunk of change to house workers and there may be additional costs. Around a year ago <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/dubbo-council-solar-mb1002\/\">we mentioned<\/a> Dubbo Regional Council was toying with the idea of getting developers to cough up more cash to address &#8220;community impacts&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h2>Solar Energy Large And Small Making Its Mark<\/h2>\n<p>In other solar news out of the Dubbo Regional Council LGA, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/dubbo-power-partnership-mb1471\/\">we reported<\/a> earlier this month Council has become a member of the Climate Council\u2019s Cities Power Partnership (CPP) program. Among its CPP pledges is to install <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/\">solar panels<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/battery-storage\/comparison-table\/\">battery storage<\/a> at various Council assets (15 PV systems are already in place) and to gradually ramp up to half of its energy consumption being renewables-based by 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Across the Dubbo Regional Council area, there were approximately 8,149 PV installations as at the end of September last year (source: APVI). Of those, 7,705 installs were under 10kW capacity, 444 in the 10-100kW range and zero above 100kW.
