Coal still made up the majority of electricity generation, estimated at 56% of Australia&#8217;s total electricity generation last year (60% in 2018).<\/p>\n<p>The largest source of renewables-based generation was wind energy (7% of total generation) followed by solar power (7%) and hydro (5%).<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a quick look at how things sat nationally and state-by-state in 2019, based on fact sheets provided by the Department. Note that these are estimates, with the full Australian Energy Statistics report to\u00a0 be published later in the year<\/p>\n<h2>National:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>265,117 GWh of electricity generated (+1%)<\/li>\n<li>21% renewables share<\/li>\n<li>56% coal share<\/li>\n<li>21% gas share<\/li>\n<li>46% growth in solar energy generation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>New South Wales:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>73,532 GWh of electricity generated (+1%)<\/li>\n<li>19% renewables share<\/li>\n<li>77% coal share<\/li>\n<li>39% growth in solar generation<\/li>\n<li>Gas generation grew 31% over 2018<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Victoria<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>47,235 GWh of electricity generated (down 1%)<\/li>\n<li>21% renewables share<\/li>\n<li>70% coal share<\/li>\n<li>56% growth in solar energy generation<\/li>\n<li>Gas generation growth of 31% over 2018<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Queensland<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>70,964 GWh of electricity generated (no change)<\/li>\n<li>13% renewables share<\/li>\n<li>70% coal share<\/li>\n<li>15% gas share<\/li>\n<li>62% growth in solar energy generation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Western Australia<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>42,709 GWh of electricity generated (+2%)<\/li>\n<li>10% renewables share<\/li>\n<li>61% natural gas share<\/li>\n<li>33% growth in wind generation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The fact sheet for Western Australia missed out on solar energy generation statistics, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3ejAIra\">supplied spreadsheet<\/a> indicates growth of around 26%.<\/p>\n<h2>South Australia<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>15,400 GWh of electricity generated (+9%)<\/li>\n<li>50% renewables share<\/li>\n<li>49% natural gas share<\/li>\n<li>36% growth in solar energy generation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Tasmania<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>10,801 GWh of electricity generated (-12%)<\/li>\n<li>94% renewables share<\/li>\n<li>81% hydro share<\/li>\n<li>10% growth in wind generation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Again, solar energy generation wasn&#8217;t mentioned in Tasmania&#8217;s fact sheet, but the spreadsheet shows growth of approximately 15% &#8211; and all of that from small-scale systems.<\/p>\n<h2>Northern Territory<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>4,478 GWh of electricity generated (+12%)<\/li>\n<li>4% renewables share<\/li>\n<li>58% natural gas share<\/li>\n<li>32% growth in solar energy generation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The ACT isn&#8217;t noted in the stats &#8211; perhaps it&#8217;s combined with NSW.<\/p>\n<h2>Small Scale Solar Power Shines<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a look at the growth in small-scale <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/solar101.html\">solar power<\/a> system (&gt;100kW capacity) contributions over the last few years nationally:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2015 &#8211;
