{"id":45581,"date":"2020-12-09T07:26:45","date_gmt":"2020-12-08T20:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/?p=45581"},"modified":"2020-12-09T07:26:45","modified_gmt":"2020-12-08T20:56:45","slug":"racv-solar-donation-mb1793","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/racv-solar-donation-mb1793\/","title":{"rendered":"RACV Donating $1 Million Worth Of Solar + Battery System Installations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-45582\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/racv-solar-donation.jpg\" alt=\"RACV solar power donation\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/racv-solar-donation.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/racv-solar-donation-300x158.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/racv-solar-donation-1024x538.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/racv-solar-donation-768x403.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Royal Automobile Club of Victoria has announced it will install dozens of solar power and battery storage systems at no cost in bushfire-prone communities over the next couple of years.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The initiative will see 28 systems installed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/installer-review\/racv\/\">RACV Solar<\/a> on regional community halls, at sporting grounds and recreation reserves designated Neighbourhood Safer Places, Bushfire Places of Last Resort and Emergency Relief Centres across Victoria.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The catastrophic bushfires of the summer of 2019-2020 that devastated many regional towns highlighted the importance of energy resilience during a natural disaster,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medianet.com.au\/releases\/195051\/\">states RACV<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The first two installations are taking place this month at Omeo and Tallangatta, with installations to occur next year in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Yea<\/li>\n<li>Biggara<\/li>\n<li>Cudgewa<\/li>\n<li>Hawksdale<\/li>\n<li>Harrietville<\/li>\n<li>Dederang<\/li>\n<li>Clifton Creek<\/li>\n<li>Heathcote<\/li>\n<li>Bendigo<\/li>\n<li>Wodonga<\/li>\n<li>Calivil Hall<\/li>\n<li>Serpentine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The systems will improve safety for these communities, some of which could otherwise be cut off from power and communications during emergencies. It&#8217;s assumed (as it wasn&#8217;t mentioned) the facilities will also benefit from significantly reduced energy costs associated with their normal operations.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis is a great investment in the safety of our regional communities, while also providing energy resilience in areas prone to bushfires,&#8221; said RACV Chief Executive Officer Neil Taylor.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>RACV Getting Its Own Solar On<\/h2>\n<p>Over the past couple of years, RACV has undertaken a major energy-efficiency initiative for its own operations, installing more than 5,500 solar panels at RACV resorts, club facilities and offices. Among these installations is a 510kW system at its Torquay Resort that features 1,645 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/winaico-review.html\">Winaico solar panels<\/a>. More recently, a 250kWh battery system was added at Torquay.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-45583 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/torquay-resort-solar.jpg\" alt=\"Solar panels on RACV Torquay Resort\" width=\"700\" height=\"374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/torquay-resort-solar.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/torquay-resort-solar-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At RACV&#8217;s corporate offices in Noble Park, 2,000 solar panels were installed last year.<\/p>\n<p>The solar installations along with a switch to LED lighting and air-conditioning system upgrades have reduced RACV&#8217;s carbon emissions by an estimated 5,000 tonnes a year. Once the program is complete, it&#8217;s expected RACV\u2019s annual mains-supplied electricity usage will be slashed by 8,000 megawatt-hours and carbon emissions reduced by 9,000 tonnes a year.<\/p>\n<p>Through these installations and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/racv-renewable-energy-mb1289\/\">deal struck with Red Energy<\/a> last year, RACV switched to 100% renewables in January. Under the agreement with Red Energy, RACV is purchasing 21 gigawatt hours of renewable electricity per year.<\/p>\n<p>Also in 2019, RACV acquired Victorian solar and battery installation firm, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/installer-review\/gippsland-solar\/\">Gippsland Solar<\/a>. The company\u2019s residential solar business was rebranded to RACV Solar while the commercial business retains the Gippsland Solar name.<\/p>\n<h2>RACV And Electric Vehicles<\/h2>\n<p>On a related note, the organisation has made inroads into supporting electric vehicles, investing alongside other motoring clubs in 2018 in Chargefox to build Australia\u2019s largest ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging system that is entirely powered by renewable energy.<\/p>\n<p>In a more controversial move, RACV has also recently thrown its support behind an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/aaa-electric-car-tax-mb1773\/\">electric vehicle road usage tax in Victoria<\/a>, stating it was a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.racv.com.au\/royalauto\/moving\/news-information\/racv-welcomes-electric-vehicle-tax.html\">win for road users<\/a>&#8221; and a first step towards a fairer overall user-pays road system .
