The package will be aimed at out-of-pocket households who invested heavily in solar panels under the previous provisions of the bonus agreement introduced under Labor.<\/p>\n<p>Details are hard to come by on what exactly constitutes \u201chardship\u201d though and the exact number of households that will qualify for compensation remains unclear. However Premier Barry O\u2019Farrell said he was introducing the package in order to be fair to these customers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want a scheme which is fair to everyone,\u201d Mr O\u2019Farrell told reporters. \u201cHowever, there may be some people facing financial problems as a result of the changes we are making to the scheme and we will provide assistance to them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to make sure people are able to recoup the money they put into purchasing solar panels as well as installation and connection costs,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to reduce the feed-in tariff has opened a split (see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.solarquotes.com.au%2Fblog%2Fliberal-hammers-nsw-govt-over-solar-rebate-backflip%2F&amp;sa=D&amp;sntz=1&amp;usg=AFQjCNGXabZre_1_OWbjNiucTbXGNkdBpg\">previous<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.solarquotes.com.au%2Fblog%2Fliberal-hammers-nsw-govt-over-solar-rebate-backflip%2F&amp;sa=D&amp;sntz=1&amp;usg=AFQjCNGXabZre_1_OWbjNiucTbXGNkdBpg\">article<\/a>) in the newly-elected Coalition Government\u2019s ranks with many moderates in the party opposing the retrospective nature of the decision, seeing the backflip as a \u201cbetrayal\u201d of customers.<\/p>\n<p>However the \u201chardship\u201d package, introduced in response to growing public disquiet over the Government\u2019s backflip, has done nothing to introduce certainty for both potential solar customers and the fledgling solar panel industry, according to experts and representatives of the NSW solar industry.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Biziano of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centralwestsolar.com.au\">Central<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centralwestsolar.com.au\">West<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centralwestsolar.com.au\">Solar<\/a> at Orange said the government\u2019s about face will have negative long term implications for the solar industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe real long-term implication is that there will be no public confidence in any future government renewables incentives, if or when they appear,\u201d he told <a href=\"http:\/\/theland.farmonline.com.au\/\">The<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/theland.farmonline.com.au\/\">Land<\/a> newspaper. \u201cThere is just no trust there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clean Energy Council CEO Matthew Warren said in a May 24 media release that the reduction of the feed-in tariff was an \u201cunacceptable\u201d decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe retrospective reduction in the feed-in tariff remains unacceptable for solar households and we remain committed to the retention of the existing rate for those who signed up to the scheme in good faith.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFailing to honour these deals would immediately send the industry to the wall,\u201d Mr Warren said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThe challenge remains to quickly develop a new scheme that continues to deliver affordable clean energy to New South Wales households and businesses and continue to build this vital new industry,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Energy Minister Hartcher said he would consult with groups such as the Clean Energy Council, as well as representatives of the solar panel industry and pensioner and welfare groups to help target the compensation package.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Rich Bowden The NSW Government has refused to back down over its controversial decision to reduce the bonus feed-in tariff offered to households for solar power returned to the grid from 60 cents per kilowatt hour to 40 cents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":19,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[46,54],"tags":[30],"class_list":["post-485","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-solar-panels-2","category-solar-policy","tag-feed-in-tariffs","entry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.4 (Yoast SEO v27.4) - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-premium-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Incompetent NSW Govt still dithering on Solar Feed In Tariffs<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"The NSW Government has refused to back down over its controversial decision to reduce the bonus feed-in tariff offered to households for solar power returned to the grid from 60 cents per kilowatt hour to 40 cents.
