Inverter manufacturer FIMER has announced some of its solar inverter models have been integrated with Australian SwitchDin technology, with more to come.<\/p>\n

What Is SwitchDin?<\/h2>\n

SwitchDin is an Australian energy management software firm that makes distributed energy resources such as solar power and battery storage systems “smart, visible and controllable”.\u00a0 Its technology suite includes Droplets, small devices used as energy management and control systems. SwitchDin’s system, which includes the cloud-based management platform StormCloud, has been described as the “babel fish” of distributed energy resource management.<\/p>\n

SwitchDin’s tech offers advanced system monitoring, energy management and alert functions. It also addresses South Australia’s mandatory Remote Disconnection and Reconnection<\/a> requirement, which has been in effect for new solar inverters connected to the grid since September 28 last year. Where SA has gone, other states may follow in order to address challenges relating to high amounts of locally generated and exported solar electricity in some areas.<\/p>\n

In October last year, Newcastle-based SwitchDin was announced the winner of a 2020 Start Up Energy Transition (SET) Award<\/a>. Also in October 2020, SwitchDin was named a technology provider in trial\u00a0of flexible connection technology<\/a> in South Australia that involves enabling solar power systems to automatically adjust export limits based on network conditions.<\/p>\n

Who Is FIMER?<\/h2>\n

Italy\u2019s FIMER<\/a> has been producing inverters for decades and states it is the fourth largest solar inverter supplier in the world.<\/p>\n

FIMER’s inverter focus was previously on utility-scale solar farms, but it entered the home and small commercial solar inverter<\/a> market with the acquisition of ABB’s solar inverter business<\/a> just over a year ago.<\/p>\n

FIMER said yesterday its current range of inverters (UNO-DM-PLUS-Q, PVS-50\/60 and PVS-100\/120) have been integrated with SwitchDin, and its new three-phase range (PVS-10\/33) plus the REACT 2 hybrid inverter and energy storage solution will be tested for compatibility next month. For South Australian solar owners, there are no additional subscription costs for customers using these inverters with SwitchDin Droplets.<\/p>\n

“By partnering with SwitchDin, FIMER will be able to address emerging regulatory requirements and take advantage of new opportunities such as dynamic export limits, which allow solar system owners to avoid strict solar feed-in limits in favour of more flexible interaction with the distribution networks,” states FIMER.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
