{"id":51949,"date":"2021-07-09T05:51:09","date_gmt":"2021-07-08T19:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/?p=51949"},"modified":"2021-07-09T05:51:09","modified_gmt":"2021-07-08T19:21:09","slug":"vic-community-power-hubs-mb2070","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/vic-community-power-hubs-mb2070\/","title":{"rendered":"More Victorian Community Power Hubs Energised"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-51950\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/community-power-hubs.jpg\" alt=\"Community Power Hubs - Victoria\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/community-power-hubs.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/community-power-hubs-300x158.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/community-power-hubs-1024x538.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/community-power-hubs-768x403.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>16 solar energy projects will be delivered before the end of this year by Community Power Hubs supported by the Victorian Government.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Andrews Government announced yesterday it is investing $6.5 million to establish seven new Community Power Hubs and for the provision of grants for community groups to install renewable energy systems and carry out energy audits.<\/p>\n<p>The new Hubs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Indigo Power in Yackandandah (Hume Community Power Hub)<\/li>\n<li>Healesville Community Owned Renewable Energy<\/li>\n<li>Yarra Energy Foundation<\/li>\n<li>Ballarat Renewable Energy and Zero Emissions (BREAZE)<\/li>\n<li>Geelong Sustainability Group<\/li>\n<li>Gippsland Climate Change Network<\/li>\n<li>Bendigo Sustainability Group<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>BREAZE and Bendigo Sustainability were two original host groups when the pilot Community Power Hubs program was launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/council-community-renewables-victoria-mb0132\/\">back in 2017<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The new funding will support development and operation of the hubs and delivery of implementation-ready community energy projects. The Hubs will also act as a &#8220;one-stop-shop&#8221; for advice on energy efficiency for community groups and businesses.<\/p>\n<p>As an example of the types of projects that will be occurring, Hume Hub will be hitting the ground running with a 136kW rooftop solar power system installation at the Moyola Gardens Retirement Village in Tatura and an 8kW PV system installed on Yea Community Shed.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOur Community Power Hubs will be working on the frontline, helping small businesses and community organisations to be a part of the renewables revolution,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.premier.vic.gov.au\/empowering-victorian-communities-reduce-emissions\">said<\/a> Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D\u2019Ambrosio. &#8220;This is all a part of our plan to halve emissions by 2030.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Clean Energy Cash For Community Groups<\/h2>\n<p>From the $6.5 million, $3.1 million has been set aside for community organisations such as sporting clubs for grants of up to $50,000 to install renewable energy systems, improve energy efficiency and undertake energy audits.<\/p>\n<p>As for how community organisations can apply for the grants, the announcement points interested parties to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.premier.vic.gov.au\/empowering-victorian-communities-reduce-emissions\">this page<\/a> on sustainability.vic.gov.au; but that appears to be the wrong page &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sustainability.vic.gov.au\/grants-funding-and-investment\/grants-and-funding\/community-climate-change-and-energy-action-program\">this may be the right one<\/a>. If so, it appears there is a 1:1 co-contribution required.<\/p>\n<h2>TRY&#8217;s Community Battery Officially Opened<\/h2>\n<p>While on the topic of community energy projects in Victoria, yesterday Minister D&#8217;Ambrosio officially opened Totally Renewable Yackandandah\u2019s (TRY&#8217;s) Community Battery (dubbed &#8220;Yack01&#8221;) and the Twist Creek Microgrid. The Community Battery project, Victoria\u2019s first behind-the-meter community-owned solar and battery installation, boasts 65kW of solar panels and a 274kWh battery system.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-51951\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/yack01-solar-battery.jpg\" alt=\"Yackandandah Community Battery project - Yack01\" width=\"900\" height=\"550\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/yack01-solar-battery.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/yack01-solar-battery-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/yack01-solar-battery-768x469.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;With 274 kWh it can power 30-40 homes through each evening, but it\u2019s main use is to shift the availability of cheap locally generated solar power to times of high demand each evening,&#8221; says TRY.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You can learn more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/totallyrenewableyack.org.au\/watts-happening\/yack01-community-battery\/\">Yack01 solar + battery system here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Community Battery Project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/victoria-communities-solar-mb1704\/\">received $171,000<\/a> from the Victorian Government\u2019s New Energy Jobs Fund, and the Twist Creek Microgrid $380,000 from the Microgrid Demonstration Initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Yackandandah is a small town situated in northeast Victoria; approximately 300 kilometres from Melbourne.
