Rooftop solar installers don&#8217;t need to be worried (yet).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Atlas was designed by AES through a collaboration with Calvary Robotics and other parties.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The AI-enabled, first-of-its-kind Atlas robot automates the construction of new solar resources, enabling a safer work environment, shorter project timelines and lower overall energy costs,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/aescorp2020cr.q4web.com\/press-releases\/news-details\/2021\/AES-Launches-First-of-its-Kind-Robot-to-Accelerate-Solar-Construction\/default.aspx\"> said<\/a> AES Senior Vice President and Chief Product Officer Chris Shelton.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>AES says Atlas can perform the heavy lifting, precise placing and attachment of solar modules faster and cheaper, and has the capability to install large solar panels.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We believe transformational solar innovations like Atlas are critical to accelerating global decarbonization at scale by transforming cost efficiencies, safety and reliability for our customers.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For something so transformational, the announcement was very light on detail, but an also very brief video has been released showing Atlas in action:<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-wrapper\"><iframe title=\"Atlas Solar Robot | The next leading innovation in solar technology | AES\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2v33or65sfc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The choice of the dubbing the robot &#8220;Atlas&#8221; was interesting given there&#8217;s another bleeding-edge tech robot by the same name; created by Boston Dynamics. Its Atlas has absolutely nothing to do with solar, but is so cool I just have to include a look at its capabilities:<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-wrapper\"><iframe title=\"Atlas | Partners in Parkour\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tF4DML7FIWk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>I, for one, will welcome our new Atlas overlords. Given Boston Dynamics&#8217; Atlas&#8217;s rapidly evolving dexterity and tech smarts, maybe a light-weight version of Atlas with hands may wind up installing panels on rooftops one day?<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, back to AES.<\/p>\n<h2>AES And Ecoppia<\/h2>\n<p>The company is pretty keen on tinkering with solar innovations. Earlier this year AES rolled out Ecoppia robotic cleaning technology at a site in California. The fully autonomous Ecoppia T4 robots <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/cleaning\/\">clean solar panels<\/a> without the use of water &#8211; and are solar-powered.<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-wrapper\"><iframe title=\"First robotic cleaning solution for trackers - Ecoppia T4\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sc5cV6XlYEg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h2>AES And Australia&#8217;s 5B<\/h2>\n<p>5B is the Australian company behind Maverick; a modular, pre-fabricated solar panel and racking solution including ballast shipped in \u201cblocks\u201d. <span class=\"style-scope yt-formatted-string\" dir=\"auto\">The company<\/span> describes it as a <span class=\"style-scope yt-formatted-string\" dir=\"auto\">&#8220;fully prefabricated, plug &amp; play solar farm in a box&#8221;.<\/span> 5B&#8217;s solution has rapidly evolved and these days, <span class=\"style-scope yt-formatted-string\" dir=\"auto\">each Maverick array can consist of up to 90 x 540-550W solar panels.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/sun-cable-5b-solar-mb1185\/\">Maverick system was selected<\/a> as the preferred technology for the massive proposed Sun Cable solar farm project in the Northern Territory &#8211; the Australia-Asia Power Link (AAPowerLink). Enter The AES Corporation, which invested in the company last year.
