Housed in the historic Railway Institute building, among the exhibits is a 20 x 9 metre HO scale model railway depicting the historic Main West rail line between Tarana and Bathurst during the 1950s and 1960s.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-58185\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/scale-model-train.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"472\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/scale-model-train.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/scale-model-train-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/scale-model-train-768x403.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/systems\/10kw\/\"> 10kW solar system<\/a> was originally installed on the museum&#8217;s rooftop, followed by more panels<span class=\"d2edcug0 hpfvmrgz qv66sw1b c1et5uql lr9zc1uh a8c37x1j fe6kdd0r mau55g9w c8b282yb keod5gw0 nxhoafnm aigsh9s9 d3f4x2em iv3no6db jq4qci2q a3bd9o3v b1v8xokw oo9gr5id hzawbc8m\" dir=\"auto\">. Recently an additional 16.38kW of solar panels were added, bringing the total system size to 38.9kW, along with two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/battery-storage\/reviews\/tesla-powerwall-2-review.html\">Tesla Powerwall batteries<\/a>. <\/span>Council also decided to install a Solar Analytics <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/good-solar-guide\/monitoring-systems\/\">consumption monitoring system<\/a> for the site.<\/p>\n<p>Council seems pretty happy with the souped-up system&#8217;s performance.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;So far, for the month of January, 58% of electricity use at the site has come from the solar panels and batteries,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BRCmedia\/posts\/296961819135598\">says a Facebook post<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The museum operates 7 days a week.<\/p>\n<h2>Bathurst Council And Solar Energy<\/h2>\n<p>Council first jumped on board with solar power around 13 years ago. Its initial installation was a 2kW system installed on the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre in 2009. As an example of how much <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/cost\/\">solar prices<\/a> have dropped since then, that system cost around $28,000 (assumed: before the solar subsidy available at the time).<\/p>\n<p>Since then, panels have been installed on at least 15 Council facilities. The total capacity was just over 571kW as at July 2020<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/bathurst-rail-solar-mb2326\/#en-58183-1' id='enref-58183-1' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(58183)'>1<\/a><\/sup>, with the largest installation at that point a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/bathurst-council-solar-mb1525\/\">90kW system<\/a> on the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre. A 35kW system installed at the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre in 2018 was the first Council installation to also include battery storage.<\/p>\n<p>Council has set a couple of targets for itself in relation to renewable energy:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>25% of Council\u2019s electricity consumption to be from renewable sources by 2023<\/li>\n<li>50%\u00a0 by 2025<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There&#8217;s a bunch more solar systems in the pipeline according to Council&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bathurst.nsw.gov.au\/images\/stories\/council\/public_docs\/REAP_Final_version_June_2020.pdf\">Renewable Energy Action Plan<\/a> (REAP). Among future proposed projects are a 1MW system at the wastewater treatment works, another 100kW for the Aquatic Centre and a 100kW solar car park. Any shortfall would be made up with other renewable energy purchases including a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement).<\/p>\n<h2>Small-scale Solar Power Across Bathurst<\/h2>\n<p>The broader community is also installing systems at a fairly rapid clip, taking advantage of the region&#8217;s bountiful solar energy resources to slash their electricity bills.<\/p>\n<p>In Bathurst&#8217;s postcode area (2795), more than 5,435 small-scale (&lt;100kW) systems had been installed as at the end of November last year; with a collective capacity of 33,471 kW.
