That price includes supporting hardware, but doesn&#8217;t include installation.<br \/>\n&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>In late March, Tesla sent out a notification to certified installers stating that due to increasing global logistics and components costs, the recommended retail price of Powerwall was to be increased on the Tesla.com website by $950 (inclusive of GST) as of March 25, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The old vs. new pricing structure:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Powerwall: $11,050 -&gt; $12,000<\/li>\n<li>Gateway<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/tesla-powerwall-price-rise-mb2419\/#en-60603-1' id='enref-60603-1' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(60603)'>1<\/a><\/sup>: $1,700 -&gt; no change<\/li>\n<li>Total: $12,750 -&gt; $13,700<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At $13,700, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/battery-storage\/reviews\/tesla-powerwall-2-review.html\">Tesla Powerwall<\/a> is currently the priciest it has ever been in Australia &#8211; and added to that are installation costs, which will pile on thousands more.<\/p>\n<h2>Powerwall Price Rollercoaster<\/h2>\n<p>When the original Powerwall 2 was released in February 2017, it was just $9,000 (approximate) in Australia. Here&#8217;s how pricing has tracked since:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>February 2018: $9,600<\/li>\n<li>October 2018: $12,250<\/li>\n<li>July 2019: $11,700<\/li>\n<li>October 2020: $12,500<\/li>\n<li>February 2021: $13,300<\/li>\n<li>May 2021: $12,750<\/li>\n<li>March 2022:\u00a0 $13,700<\/li>\n<li><strong>UPDATE<\/strong> May 2022: $14,650<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Powerwall now costs over 50% more than it did back in 2017 when originally released here. Still, it remains one of the most popular battery systems in Australia. In the latest SolarQuotes Installers&#8217; Choice Awards it was voted the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/best-home-batteries-2022\/\">best solar battery in 2022<\/a> in both the &#8220;money no object&#8221; and &#8220;budget&#8221; categories; the latter because it seems many installers can&#8217;t bear the thought of installing anything else.<\/p>\n<h2>High Prices Hinder Home Battery Uptake<\/h2>\n<p>According to information from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunwiz.com.au\/battery-market-report-australia-2022\/\">solar industry analyst SunWiz<\/a>, there were approximately 30,246 home battery installations last year in Australia &#8211; a small drop on 2020. SunWiz pegged the cumulative total of home batteries installed in Australia at around 140,000.<\/p>\n<p>Early <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/home-battery-forecasts-wrong\/\">home battery uptake forecasts<\/a> for Australia were very optimistic &#8211; and way off the mark.<\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/battery-storage\/comparison-table\/\">solar battery prices<\/a> remain so high, this means in most circumstances they won&#8217;t pay for themselves within their warranty periods &#8211; making it an unattractive proposition for many households.<\/p>\n<p>However, there is support for home energy storage purchases in some states and territories that can improve the economics to some degree. For Australians wanting a Tesla Model 3, they&#8217;ll also be shelling out more.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of weeks ago, Tesla increased the price of Model 3 EVs by at least $3,000.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Model 3 standard: $ 63,900<\/li>\n<li>Long range: $ 76,200<\/li>\n<li>Performance: $ 88,900<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Drive-away pricing for the Performance model in SA is now $98,304.
