Consistent feedback from installers all over the country is the Powerwall is a great package. \u00a0If only everything else Musk touched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/musk-said-comedy-now-legal-twitter-jokes-getting-users-suspended-2022-11?op=1\">worked<\/a> so well.<\/p>\n<p>The problem now is the Powerwall has gone from reasonably priced to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/powerwall-prices-australia-mb2670\/\">reassuringly expensive<\/a>. So what other options are there?<\/p>\n<h2>Powerwall Is Single-Phase, AC-Coupled<\/h2>\n<p>There are so many battery configurations it&#8217;s easy to be confused. There are 3-phase batteries, single-phase batteries, managed, unmanaged, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/101-guides\/understanding-batteries\/#ac-dc-coupling\">DC &amp; AC-coupled<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Powerwall is a single-phase, AC-coupled battery<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/tesla-powerwall-alternatives\/#en-66771-1' id='enref-66771-1' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(66771)'>1<\/a><\/sup>, so this guide will focus on single-phase AC-coupled alternatives to the esteemed Powerwall.<\/p>\n<p>For home energy storage, this means the battery is charged from 230 Volts AC, and discharges 230 Volts AC. While there are some efficiency losses with AC-coupled batteries, the 230 VAC connection makes them easily retrofittable to your 230 VAC switchboard.<\/p>\n<h2>Home Backup<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/battery-storage\/reviews\/tesla-powerwall-2-review.html\">The Powerwall<\/a> is wired into your switchboard as a parallel supply to the grid, so for blackout protection, it needs an additional &#8220;backup box&#8221;, which Tesla calls a gateway.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the Powerwall alternatives use a different backup architecture. They have a dedicated essential-circuit output, which means the lights and fridge are wired<i> through<\/i> the inverter. Be careful with this design. If the battery is some distance from the main switchboard, the losses to get both to AND from the main switchboard can make cabling impractical and expensive<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Top-tip:<\/strong> \u00a0If your &#8220;essential&#8221; circuits are wired through (i.e. <em>in and out<\/em> of) the battery backup system, it\u2019s prudent to have a manual changeover switch installed that bypasses the battery altogether. Image credit: Solar Depot<\/p><\/div>\n<h2 id=\"dnsp-limits\">Know Your DNSP&#8217;s Inverter Limit<\/h2>\n<p>As a word of caution &#8211; before you roar out and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/101-guides\/buying-batteries\/\">buy a battery<\/a> for your house, it&#8217;s worth getting advice about the rules from your network service provider. The poles and wires people (DNSPs) impose limits on how much equipment you can connect to the grid<em>. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here in SA, you can have 10kW of inverter(s) connected per phase, with most properties having single-phase, three-phase or occasionally two-phase supplies. So for my particular single-phase example, the plan is for a 4kW and 6kW <a href=\"https:\/\/www.selectronic.com.au\/fronius\/\">solar inverter<\/a>, at which point I am at my maximum 10kW <em>solar inverter<\/em> capacity as far as the DNSP (SA Power Networks) is concerned.<\/p>\n<p>However, I am also allowed an additional 10kW of <em>battery inverter<\/em> capacity on the same connection, so my devious scheme is to install a 5kW <a href=\"https:\/\/www.selectronic.com.au\/sppro\/\">Selectronic SpPro<\/a> for storage and bulletproof blackout protection.<\/p>\n<p>The trap is that if you have a <em>hybrid<\/em> solar and battery inverter, that machine can count toward<em> both<\/em> allowable totals. If I were to install two 5 kilowatt<em> hybrid<\/em> machines I could install nothing more. It might be simpler to connect and monitor a hybrid, but it&#8217;s likely only one of them would function in a blackout.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Top-Tip:<\/strong> You can see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/grid-connection\/\">maximum inverter capacity rules for your DNSP here<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now you know your maximum inverter capacity, you can work out how many solar panels you are allowed to attach to that inverter.<\/p>\n<p>The STCs that make the &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/rebate\/\">solar rebate<\/a>&#8216; are capped at a solar-panel capacity that is 133%<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/tesla-powerwall-alternatives\/#en-66771-2' id='enref-66771-2' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(66771)'>2<\/a><\/sup> of your inverter capacity. Hence the proliferation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/systems\/6kw\/\">6.6 kW systems<\/a>: 5kW x 1.33 = 6.65kW &#8212;&gt; cheap!.<\/p>\n<p>But it has recently been confirmed that the 133% doesn&#8217;t apply if you have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/glossary.html#lifepo\">DC coupled<\/a> battery.<\/p>\n<p>So if you are planning a battery system, know that the upper limit on your solar panel capacity is limited by the inverter manufacturer. The manufacturer of a nameplate-rated 5 kW solar inverter might specify you can connect 7.5kW or even 10kW of solar panels.<\/p>\n<p>It means a house with 10kW of Fronius solar inverters and a battery can go from the STC-limited 13.2kW of solar up to 15kW. A Huawei or SolarEdge inverter could have 20 kW of solar panels. And with battery storage to soak up the kWhs, you can make better use of all that capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately (and in my opinion it&#8217;s a little silly) you can&#8217;t fully explore oversizing of your solar with an AC coupled battery in the system -the extra capacity has to be attached to a hybrid inverter.<\/p>\n<h2>My List Of Powerwall Alternatives<\/h2>\n<p>For reference, the Powerwall has:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Warranty:<\/strong> 70% capacity at 10 years \/ 37,800 kWh aggregate throughput<\/li>\n<li><strong>Usable Capacity:<\/strong> 13.5 kWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>Approx retail:<\/strong> $16 500 \u00a0+ installation (includes Gateway)<\/li>\n<li><strong>$-per-usable-kWh:<\/strong> $1,222<\/li>\n<li><strong>$-per-warranted-kWh :<\/strong>$0.44<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tesla claim it&#8217;s also stackable up to a whopping ten units. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news.com.au\/technology\/innovation\/design\/im-sick-of-this-adelaide-dads-240000-18month-tesla-nightmare\/news-story\/3ee7702c7ec44bde25152585d267394e\">But I wouldn&#8217;t recommend doing that.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So in a vague order, the next best options for a single-phase, AC-coupled home battery that I have found might well be:<\/p>\n<h3>1. Sonnen Batterie EVO<\/h3>\n<p>Shiny white Tesla styling with a German flavour, they&#8217;re a first-world machine made in a first-world country to solve first-world problems. The sonnenBatterie has, to my mind, a reassuring feature: it has specific specifications, and<i> more of them<\/i>. If a manufacturer is willing to tell you more about the product, they\u2019re more confident it will meet the requirements they\u2019re setting out for themselves.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-67570\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/sonnenbatterie-evo.jpg\" alt=\"SonnenBatterie Evo\" width=\"732\" height=\"382\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/sonnenbatterie-evo.jpg 732w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/sonnenbatterie-evo-300x157.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 732px) 100vw, 732px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For example, despite the nominal rating of 5 kW or 22 amps, Sonnen specifies a very respectable 7.05 kVA of backup capacity for 60 seconds and 5.3 kVA for 30 minutes<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/tesla-powerwall-alternatives\/#en-66771-3' id='enref-66771-3' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(66771)'>3<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>In short, because there\u2019s surge capacity available to do more than the nominal figure, they\u2019re promising that,\u00a0<i>at the very least<\/i>, it\u2019ll do what it says on the tin.<\/p>\n<p>Lithium Iron Phosphate chemistry is a safe bet (without the shorter life or perceived questionable ethics of cobalt in an NMC battery) IP56 rating means it can certainly be an outdoor unit, and it accepts 6kW of compatible solar inverter.<\/p>\n<p>The essential circuits, i.e. ones that are blackout protected, are wired through the Sonnen. While I haven&#8217;t installed one myself, I have examined the newest model first-hand. From an installer&#8217;s perspective, they are a nice design with neat weatherproof packaging.<\/p>\n<p>If you hammer this battery and cycle it multiple times per day, perhaps with an aggressive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/battery-storage\/virtual-power-plants\/\">VPP<\/a>, Sonnen&#8217;s 10-year 100,000 cycle warranty looks attractive.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Warranty:<\/strong> 80% capacity at 10 years \/ 10,000 full cycles (100,000 kWh) &#8211; whichever comes first<\/li>\n<li><strong>Usable Capacity:<\/strong> 10 kWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>Approx retail:<\/strong> $14,000 \u00a0+ installation<\/li>\n<li><strong>$-per-usable-kWh:<\/strong> $1,400<\/li>\n<li><strong>$-per-warranted-kWh<\/strong><strong>\u00a0:\u00a0<\/strong>$0.38 if cycled once per day, \u00a0$0.19 if cycled twice per day<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/tesla-powerwall-alternatives\/#en-66771-4' id='enref-66771-4' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(66771)'>4<\/a><\/sup>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"lg:w-4\/6\"><span class=\"cke_editable\">2. SENEC.Home<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Apart from using Samsung SDI battery modules from South Korea, the SENEC.Home V3 is designed, manufactured and assembled in Germany. It&#8217;s a pretty compact floor-standing unit; 1135 mm tall with a 535 mm square footprint, cables enter from the rear as seen in this<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wmi5kzCzvmo\"> video.<\/a> With an IP30 ingress rating, it must be installed inside and doesn&#8217;t offer a wall mounting option, so you&#8217;ll need to consider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/battery-installation-locations\/\">where it goes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With space for two battery packs, the Senec has either 4.5 or 9 kWh of usable storage. The backup circuits are wired through the unit, and it offers a disappointing maximum 3.5 kW of battery power.<\/p>\n<p>The sales material claims:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<span class=\"cke_editable \">100% capacity guarantee for the first 10 years&#8221; <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span class=\"cke_editable \">&#8230;which appears to differ from the<\/span> warranty <a href=\"https:\/\/senec.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2021-07\/CD030-003.14_Warranty_AU_Standard.pdf\">documentation<\/a> offering 75% at ten years or 12,000 aggregated cycles. Interestingly there is a further 10 years warranty <a href=\"https:\/\/senec.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2020-11\/CD030-016.12_Warranty%20Terms%20and%20Conditions%20Australia%20Extended.pdf\">available<\/a> for purchase (if you have solar panels). However, this doesn&#8217;t buy you any more cycles, just more time, and has some curious $450 excess payments should you call on the warranty.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-67571\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/senec-home-battery.jpg\" alt=\"Senec home battery\" width=\"913\" height=\"508\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/senec-home-battery.jpg 913w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/senec-home-battery-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/senec-home-battery-768x427.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 913px) 100vw, 913px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With offices in Victoria and Western Australia, they assure us\u00a0the local agents are available for support over extended hours.\u00a0I can&#8217;t vouch personally for the service, but it&#8217;s certainly had a good\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5Zq7asjdJ1s\">review from someone I trust<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pv-magazine.com\/2022\/03\/10\/senec-remotely-switches-off-its-residential-batteries-after-explosion-in-germany\/\">this story<\/a> from Germany raises some questions, it also highlights the importance of a solid internet connection and a reputable manufacturer who takes a proactive approach to monitoring. It&#8217;s damage control in more ways than one.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Warranty:<\/strong> 75% capacity at 10 years \/ 12,000 cycles (108,000 kWh) &#8211; whichever comes first<\/li>\n<li><strong>Usable Capacity:<\/strong> 9 kWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>Approx retail:<\/strong> $14,000 \u00a0+ installation<\/li>\n<li><strong>$-per-usable-kWh:<\/strong> $1,555<\/li>\n<li><strong>$-per-warranted-kWh :<\/strong>$0.43 @ 1 cycle per day \/ $0.21 @ 2 cycles per day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>3. Q.cells Q.HOME CORE A5<\/h3>\n<p>Qcells assures me that the AC-coupled Q.Home battery (suffix A5) exists, even though the website <em>only<\/em> refers to the H5 DC-coupled, <a href=\"https:\/\/qcells.com\/au\/get-started\/complete-energy-solution\/ess\">hybrid model<\/a>, which I found curious<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/tesla-powerwall-alternatives\/#en-66771-5' id='enref-66771-5' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(66771)'>5<\/a><\/sup>. The hard-to-find A5 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Qcells_Data_sheet_Q.HOME_CORE_A5_2022-08_Rev03_AU.pdf\">datasheet is here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It has to be said that if you do choose the A5 model (instead of the H5 hybrid), your existing solar system cannot charge the battery. Blackout protection is limited to the energy stored in the battery. There&#8217;s no ability to black start the battery if you flatten it overnight, so extended off-grid autonomy isn&#8217;t available.<\/p>\n<p>One point that seems to set Qcells apart is their monitoring platform will integrate with Samsung Smart Things, so you can stitch together more things in the quest for more energy efficiency. And if we&#8217;re being honest, the kilowatt you never needed is always the cheapest.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_67572\" style=\"width: 910px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-67572\" class=\"size-full wp-image-67572\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/qcells-home-battery.jpg\" alt=\"Qcells Q.HOME CORE A5 battery\" width=\"900\" height=\"454\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/qcells-home-battery.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/qcells-home-battery-300x151.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/qcells-home-battery-768x387.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-67572\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">It&#8217;s all colour-coded shades of greige.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">In performance terms, the Qcells A5 is a respectable 21 amps or 5 kVa. The surge capacity isn&#8217;t quite as stout as some, but it is reassuringly specific: 5.5 kVA for 30 seconds, 6.0 kVA for 20 seconds, 6.5 kVA for 10 seconds, assuming you have more than the minimum number of batteries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The batteries themselves are Lithium-ion NCA (Samsung SDI, used by a number of other manufacturers as well). They come in nominal 6.8 kWh increments, so you can couple up two more packs for a total of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">13.7kWh or 20.5kWh of storage. Rated<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"> usable energy<\/span> in <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">kWh is<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">6.51 \/ 13.03 \/ 19.55.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a nice looking device that can be wall or floor-mounted. While I don&#8217;t have first-hand experience with installing one, I have seen enough to know a fussy customer will probably need a cable duct and a talented electrician with the time to make the wiring entering the bottom of the packs look nice.<\/p>\n<p>Now for the warranty. Qcells make a great deal out of being a solid company with an Australian office offering a 15-year warranty and good on them. If the marketing is to be believed, the extra five years makes a great deal of difference for your return on investment, and if it keeps it functioning on your wall instead of being replaced, that saves on invested energy, then we all win.<\/p>\n<p>Qcells have a very specific formula to reduce their liability if the battery is operated outside its preferred temperature window, so they want you to have an internet connection. The warranty compensation paid after two years is pro-rata. I was relieved to see Australian Consumer Law does rate a mention further on in the <a href=\"https:\/\/qcells.com\/au\/search\/search?keyword=warranty\">document<\/a>, so I would hope you could nail them for a replacement if it suffered a major failure inside of maybe 10 years?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Warranty:<\/strong> 60% capacity at 15 years \/ 29,500 kWh per 6.86 kWh module<\/li>\n<li><strong>Usable Capacity:<\/strong>\u00a0 <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">6.5 \/ 13 \/ 19.5\u00a0<\/span>kWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>Approx retail:<\/strong> $12,000 + installation for 6.5 kWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>$-per-usable-kWh:<\/strong> $1,846<\/li>\n<li><strong>$-per-warranted-kWh :\u00a0<\/strong>$0.40<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>4. Eguana Evolve<\/h3>\n<p>Partly assembled right here in <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/6Gt96aWCMC2i5CZe8\">Adelaide<\/a> the Eguana Evolve is a fairly gutsy package with an inherently safe galvanically isolated inverter, 5 kVA <a href=\"https:\/\/eguanatech.com\/_resources\/Installer_Resources\/Evolve%20ESS%20AU\/68117%20Evolve%20ESS%20AU%20datasheet.pdf?v=0.586\">nominal<\/a> and 170% or 8.5 kVA surge capacity (provided you buy a third battery for 19.5 kWh total storage).<\/p>\n<p>Starting at 13 kWh storage (2 batteries) the Evolve can be grown in increments of 6.5 kWh up to 39 kWh. Redback SB14200<\/h3>\n<p>The Redback\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/redbacktech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/sb-data-sheet.pdf\">SB14200<\/a> comes with 4.5 kVA or 19.6 amps output. Offering a 10-year warranty and 14.2 kWh of storage (4.8 to 28.4kWh models are available), I think if you scratched the paint off, you\u2019d find it was actually a Goodwe inverter powered by 4 Pylontech LiFePO4 batteries. But that&#8217;s really nothing to be sneezed at.<\/p>\n<p>IP54 rated with convection cooling makes them weatherproof and quiet. The essential circuits are wired through the Redback unit and while I haven&#8217;t installed one from scratch, I have certainly had the covers off and done enough work on them to verify it&#8217;s a nicely built all-in-one package that is very neat when installed. Plus they\u2019re backed by a well-established <a href=\"https:\/\/redbacktech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/redback_consumer_brochure.pdf\">Australian<\/a> organisation in Brisbane.<\/p>\n<p>Better still, those banana benders are putting quite a lot of local content into the package. Soltaro AIO2 5KW\/10kWh<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Having spoken to the Soltaro National Manager at the recent All Energy Conference, I can assure you he is confident that this is a pretty solid offering. Of course, he would say that, but I&#8217;ve not heard anything to counter that position elsewhere around the traps. No matter how well styled, this battery, in a habitable area of your home, is illegal.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Batteries are <span id=\"page1R_mcid42\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">LiFePO4<\/span><\/span> chemistry with a nominal 5kWh capacity, meaning the 10kWh unit has a 9kWh useable capacity.<\/p>\n<p>The output specifications operating to power your essential loads are very simply put as 5 kVa and 21.7 amps with no other qualifications. In my experience, that means there&#8217;s no surge capacity beyond that figure. What proves interesting is if you trawl through the manual, they specifically declare a surge output of 5.5kVa for 10 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Now that&#8217;s great that they state it, and great they&#8217;re honest enough to go on further in writing. What disappoints me is that the backup circuit is <em>not suitable for inductive loads. <\/em>To underline this, there is a 2.5 kVa limit imposed for total inductive load. Why does that matter? Well, because it will struggle to\u00a0<em>start<\/em> your fridge.<\/p>\n<p>Lights, TVs, computers and phone chargers don&#8217;t use much energy and don&#8217;t cause much disturbance to the supply. Things with electric motors, such as your fridge, freezer, rainwater or aquarium pump are inductive loads. They distort the AC supply, and worst of all, they often need <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2xIsmRkpQLA\">seven times their rated current<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>when they start up. Thankfully more things are now being built with &#8220;soft start&#8221; circuits, which means they&#8217;re less demanding.<\/p>\n<p>After you&#8217;ve shelled out for any of these inverters to be screwed to your house, you don&#8217;t want to find turning the kitchen tap on kills the power, or having the fridge running means you have to unplug the freezer to keep the lights on. If you&#8217;re in a cruel mood, you might also describe this as &#8220;a hinged greige cover for the buttons&#8221;.\u00a0<span id=\"page1R_mcid11\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid8\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page1R_mcid8\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Nominal storage capacity starts at 6.1 kWh, expandable up to a healthy 24.4kWh. With a full stack, you could almost charge an early model Nissan leaf in something under 7 hours, but please don&#8217;t hold me to that calculation because I have to admit I&#8217;ve never clapped eyes on one of these things.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page1R_mcid9\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span>The <a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/6136b4811f997d6d88a9d50b\/t\/6178d6b076f6670a235eb2df\/1635309233238\/Energizer-Homepower-Warranty-AU.pdf\">warranty document<\/a> says you&#8217;ll want a reliable internet connection. Otherwise the warranty will be cut to 4 years. It also clarifies that useable capacity is 95% of nominal capacity and assuming &#8220;normal operation&#8221; after 10,000 cycles there should be a pretty healthy 80% of that useable capacity left. There is a table that specifies a &#8220;<span id=\"page1R_mcid63\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Total Energy Dispatch of <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid64\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">3 MWh per kWh<\/span><\/span>&#8221; if you&#8217;re using it for &#8220;other applications&#8221;. Delta Residential \/ BX6.3_AC100<\/h3>\n<p>The model number is quite informative here, while the technical specifications are, by comparison, pretty <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradezone.com.au\/\/media\/custom\/upload\/File-1604276979.pdf\">basic<\/a>. The unit has 6.3k Wh of AC coupled battery which offers a lowly 3 kW or nearly 14 amps of peak backup capacity.<\/p>\n<p>The Delta is IP65 rated for weather protection and uses convection cooling, so it\u2019s quiet; using well-regarded Samsung Li-ion cells.<\/p>\n<p>With the option of a second module, the EX_6.3 Delta can extend storage capacity to nearly Powerwall size while the backup specification increases to a healthy enough 4.5 kW or just over 20 amps peak.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-67581\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/delta-solar-battery.jpg\" alt=\"Delta solar battery\" width=\"900\" height=\"573\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/delta-solar-battery.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/delta-solar-battery-300x191.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/delta-solar-battery-768x489.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the warranty is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradezone.com.au\/\/media\/custom\/upload\/File-1604277022.pdf\">for only 50% capacity.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So scrap that. In my opinion, with the pitiful warranty, you should not consider this a Powerwall alternative.<\/p>\n<h3>9. Enphase IQ Battery<\/h3>\n<p>The Enphase IQ Battery is coming. In fact, it&#8217;s been coming for at least five years now. But I\u2019ve included it here because we expect it be a nice product. Soon. Maybe.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/enphase.com\/en-au\/homeowners\/home-solar-batteries\">Details<\/a> so far announced say the Enphase IQ Battery 10\u2122 has a total usable energy capacity of 10.08 kWh with a dozen embedded grid-forming microinverters under the bonnet for redundancy. Together these provide 3.84 kW of backup capability via the IQ System Controller, which houses the Smart Switch, the Enphase IQ Gateway, Circuit protection, Power Control and anti-islanding protection required by Australian and New Zealand standards. Up to 4 batteries can be stacked for a total of 40kWh storage.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, they have promised it\u2019ll be here by Christmas\u2026 without actually specifying which year.
