Now the dust has settled on 2022 a bit more, here’s a look at the top ten postcodes in Australia for solar installations carried out last year.<\/p>\n

The following list is based on information from Australia’s Clean Energy Regulator<\/a> and is in relation to small-scale solar power systems; i.e., those under 100kW capacity. Given the way the Regulator receives installation data, the numbers may still change somewhat over the coming months.<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 New South Wales – 2765<\/h2>\n

Among NSW’s 2765 postcode localities are Box Hill, Marsden Park and Gables. During 2022, there were at least 1,783 solar installations for a collective capacity of 15.9 megawatts (average system size: ~8.9kW).<\/p>\n

2. Victoria – 3029<\/h2>\n

The suburbs in VIC’s 3029 postcode are Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit and Truganina. Last year, at least 1,738 systems were installed for a total capacity of 14.8 megawatts (~8.5kW average).<\/p>\n

3. Queensland – 4670<\/h2>\n

QLD’s postcode 4670 includes localities such as Bundaberg, Burnett Heads and Avoca. At least 1,517 PV systems were installed in the 4670 postcode area last year, for a collective capacity of close to 11.8 megawatts (~7.8kW average).<\/p>\n

4. Victoria – 3064<\/h2>\n

More than 1,400 solar panel systems were installed in VIC postcode 3064 in 2022, which covers areas including Craigieburn, Mickleham and Donnybrook. Collectively, these systems added up to around 11.29 megawatts of capacity (~8.1kW average).<\/p>\n

5. Queensland – 4655<\/h2>\n

In QLD postcode 4655 (Eli Waters, Hervey Bay, Scarness and others), there were approximately 1,385 solar system installations last year for a total capacity of 10.5MW (~7.6kW average).<\/p>\n

6. Queensland – 4551<\/h2>\n

Next in line was postcode 4551, which includes among its localities Caloundra, Shelly Beach and Currimundi. There were 1,280 installations last year, collectively adding up to around 10.2MW of capacity (~8kW average).<\/p>\n

7. Queensland – 4209<\/h2>\n

QLD – again! Postcode 4209 covers Coomera, Upper Coomera, Pimpama and Willow Vale; where 1,274 solar installations occurred in 2022 with a total capacity just north of 12MW (~9.4kW average). So, in terms of total capacity, 4209 beat quite a few others above it in this top ten list.<\/p>\n

8. Western Australia – 6210<\/h2>\n

WA puts in its first appearance in this list with postcode 6210. Its area includes a bunch of suburbs such as Mandurah, Silver Sands and Falcon. Approximately 1,256 solar power systems were installed for a collective capacity of 8.5MW (~6.8kW average).<\/p>\n

9. Queensland – 4740<\/h2>\n

QLD’s postcode 4740 was another instance where the number of solar installation (~1,253) collectively added up to more capacity than some of the other postcodes outranking it (~11.8MW : ~9.4kW average). This postcode area includes East Mackay, Glenella, Beaconsfield and other localities.<\/p>\n

10. Western Australia – 6112<\/h2>\n

Last, but certainly not least when you consider there are thousands of postcode areas across Australia, was postcode 6112 in WA. Among its localities are Piara Waters, Haynes and Wungong. 1,246 solar systems were installed in 2022, for a collective capacity of around 8.3MW (~6.7kW average).<\/p>\n

Note:<\/strong> To compile a “fair” top 10 list, it should probably be based on per capita figures. But that would be a pretty big job and one I don’t have time to tackle.<\/p>\n
