Elon Musk morphing into a complete wazzock over this time probably doesn&#8217;t help, either.<\/p>\n<p>Happily for Australian buyers, the cost of Powerwall may have peaked. With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/powerwall-price-reduction-mb2842\/\">last week&#8217;s price cut<\/a>, you can fully install your first Powerwall from about $16,500.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-71746 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/tesla-powerwall-price-history.png\" alt=\"Tesla Powerwall price history graph\" width=\"900\" height=\"675\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I suspect Tesla will find ways to keep reducing the Powerwall&#8217;s price, and I expect a step change in price with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/battery-storage\/reviews\/tesla-powerwall-3-review.html\">Powerwall 3<\/a><sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/best-home-batteries-2023\/#en-71978-1' id='enref-71978-1' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(71978)'>1<\/a><\/sup>. If Tesla can manage to build a Gen 3 Powerwall that beats other batteries on $-per-kWh, they are going to fly off the shelves even faster than they do now<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/best-home-batteries-2023\/#en-71978-2' id='enref-71978-2' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(71978)'>2<\/a><\/sup>. Other home battery manufacturers should be worried.<\/p>\n<h3>Best Batteries 2023: Second Place \u2013 BYD<\/h3>\n<p>BYD&#8217;s stackable, cobalt-free LiFePo4 &#8216;B-Box&#8217; is a great home battery and is directly compatible with the fantastic Fronius GEN24 hybrid inverter via DC coupling.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/battery-storage\/reviews\/byd-review.html\">BYD batteries<\/a> start at 5.1 kWh and go up to 66.2 kWh. The stackable energy storage solution starts at 9.6 kWh and can be expanded with 3.2 kWh modules. You&#8217;ll need a Sungrow inverter to control the battery and can choose AC or DC coupling.<\/p>\n<p>A 12.8 kWh Sungrow battery and Sungrow battery inverter retrofitted to an existing solar system starts at about $14,000 installed at the time of writing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/battery-storage\/reviews\/sungrow-review.html\">Sungrow<\/a> has a great reputation for good value, well-supported hardware and is a great choice if you want to save a few thousand dollars over a Tesla.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m getting a Sungrow battery retrofitted to a 6.6 kW system this month. They can diagnose most issues remotely, and I&#8217;m hearing good things about their warranty support (after a shaky start a few years ago).<\/p>\n<p>For a &#8216;budget&#8217; brand, Sungrow also gets big props for their helpful Australian support that is better than many &#8216;premium&#8217; battery brands&#8217; support efforts.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s good to see BYD doing well with their Aussie home battery support &#8211; bear in mind that if you need help with your BYD you may also need to deal with the battery inverter vendors&#8217; support.<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>At the end of the day &#8211; if you are looking for a low-risk home battery, the message from the 2023 installer survey is clear:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Retrofitting a battery and want the best? Get a Tesla Powerwall.<\/li>\n<li>Already got a BYD-compatible hybrid inverter, and want a battery? Get a BYD.<\/li>\n<li>Want to spend about 20% less than a Tesla?
