like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/fronius-wattpilot-review\/\">Wattpilot Go<\/a> &#8212; are portable but require the installation of a heavy-duty powerpoint.\u00a0 For details, check out our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/electric-vehicles\/ev-charging-guide\/\">EV Charger 101 Guide<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<p>I got the 11 warranties from our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/ev-chargers\/\">EV Charger Comparison Table<\/a>. \u00a0Currently, 21 manufacturers are on the table, but only 11 have provided us with warranties.\u00a0 Actually, it was only nine, but I chased down the ones from Tesla and Victron because I strongly believe the world needs to keep an eye on both Elon Musk and the Dutch.<\/p>\r\n<h2>The Competitors<\/h2>\r\n<p>The 11 EV chargers I&#8217;ll force into battle, along with the lengths of their warranties, are:<\/p>\r\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\r\n<table style=\"width: 100%; quite literally &#8212; years ahead of most of the competition.\u00a0 But, we&#8217;ll see if that&#8217;s enough to make them the winners.<\/p>\r\n<p>If you want to read about EV chargers themselves we have articles on two of them:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/tesla-wall-connector\/\">Should You Buy A Tesla Wall Connector As Your EV Charger?<\/a><\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/fronius-wattpilot-review\/\">Fronius Wattpilot:\u00a0 A Smart EV Charger With A Short Warranty<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>We also have an article focusing on the warranty of the Austrian-made Wattpilot:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/fronius-wattpilot-warranty\/\">The Fronius Wattpilot Warranty:\u00a0 It&#8217;s Too Short<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>As you&#8217;ve probably guessed from two of those titles, we think Austrians don&#8217;t need to be so stingy with regard to warranty length.<\/p>\r\n<h2>How They&#8217;ll Be Judged<\/h2>\r\n<p>In the battle royale, EV chargers will be judged on the following criteria&#8230;<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Warranty length.<\/li>\r\n<li>Australian presence.<\/li>\r\n<li>No option for a potentially paltry payout instead of repair or replacement.<\/li>\r\n<li>Labour costs covered.<\/li>\r\n<li>Transportation costs covered.<\/li>\r\n<li>Faults due to wear and tear covered.<\/li>\r\n<li>Transferrable.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>I will place different weights on these criteria and rank all 11 from best to worst.\u00a0 These weights can&#8217;t help but be subjective, but that&#8217;s fine.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll point out the strengths and weaknesses of each warranty, and you can decide how good or bad particular warranties are.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<h2>What They Won&#8217;t Be Judged On<\/h2>\r\n<p>What the EV chargers won&#8217;t be judged on are&#8230;<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Their real-life quality and reliability.<\/li>\r\n<li>The actual support you&#8217;re likely to receive from a manufacturer.<\/li>\r\n<li>The protections you&#8217;re entitled to under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accc.gov.au\/consumers\/buying-products-and-services\/consumer-rights-and-guarantees\">Australian Consumer Guarantees<\/a>.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>An EV charger could be reliable but still have a lousy warranty.\u00a0 I&#8217;m certainly hoping this is the case for the majority of them.\u00a0 But this article isn&#8217;t about how good the chargers are, I&#8217;m just comparing their warranties.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>You&#8217;ll often get better support than what the warranty promises thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accc.gov.au\/consumers\/buying-products-and-services\/consumer-rights-and-guarantees\">Australian Consumer Guarantees<\/a>.\u00a0 I won&#8217;t go into the protections they provide, but I will say they&#8217;re comprehensive and worth checking out if you have a problem getting after-sales support.\u00a0 But ideally, you want the protection to be in the warranty document itself.\u00a0 That way you know you&#8217;re not likely to have to fight the company to get them to live up to their obligations under Australian consumer law.<\/p>\r\n<p>And now&#8230; Victron EV Charging Station<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>In third place with four years is the&#8230;<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Tesla Gen 3 Wall Connector<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Then there are a couple with three-year warranties&#8230;<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>ABB Terra Wallbox &amp; ZJ Beny AC EV Charger<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>While all the rest are slumming it with measly a measly two years<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/ev-charger-warranties\/#en-75498-2' id='enref-75498-2' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(75498)'>2<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\r\n<h2>Australian Connection<\/h2>\r\n<p>A strong Australian connection is important for warranty quality. It makes it easier to chase them down when something goes wrong. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>I checked the strength of manufacturers&#8217; Australian connection by looking at two things:<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li>Is it an Australian company?<\/li>\r\n<li>If it&#8217;s not an Australian company, do they have an Australian website or mention an Australian office or contact anywhere on their company website?<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p>Taking first place for Australian connection was&#8230;<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>EVOS Fleet Home22<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>This was an easy win for them because it was the only Australian company.\u00a0 Their EV chargers are made in Brisbane and Adelaide. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>In second place are a bunch of overseas companies that have Australian websites&#8230;<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>ABB Terra Wallbox<\/li>\r\n<li>Delta AC MAX (smart)<\/li>\r\n<li>Fronius Wattpilot<\/li>\r\n<li>Schneider EVLink Home<\/li>\r\n<li>SMA EV Charger<\/li>\r\n<li>Tesla Gen 3 Wall Connector<\/li>\r\n<li>Victron EV Charging Station<\/li>\r\n<li>&#8230;and I guess I&#8217;ll throw FIMER FLEXA AC Wallbox in there as well, despite committing the sin of having a combined AUS\/NZ website.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>In last place are two companies with no mention of Australia on their website&#8230;<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Circontrol Wallbox eNext<\/li>\r\n<li>ZJ Beny AC EV Charger<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2>Repair\/Replacement Or Paltry Payout?<\/h2>\r\n<p>All warranties state the manufacturer can choose whether to repair or replace a defective charger.\u00a0 They also usually have the option to reimburse the purchase price or pay to have your charger replaced with an equivalent unit. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Unfortunately, some warranties say they can give the &#8220;market value&#8221; of the charger at the time it failed.\u00a0 They don&#8217;t say how the market value will be determined, but I figure a second-hand EV charger probably doesn&#8217;t sell for much on eBay.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Some warranties say they can give credit towards buying products from that company. \u00a0That&#8217;s particularly rotten since you&#8217;ll only get that credit after getting clear evidence that the company&#8217;s products aren&#8217;t always reliable.<\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-75976\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/compare-money.jpg\" alt=\"Shut up and take my money!\" width=\"816\" height=\"457\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/compare-money.jpg 816w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/compare-money-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/compare-money-768x430.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 816px) 100vw, 816px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>The winners in this category don&#8217;t keep the option of paying less than the purchase price or replacement cost:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>ABB Terra Wallbox<\/li>\r\n<li>Delta AC MAX (smart)<\/li>\r\n<li>EVOS Fleet Home22<\/li>\r\n<li>Schneider EVLink Home<\/li>\r\n<li>SMA EV Charger<\/li>\r\n<li>ZJ Beny AC EV Charger<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>The four losers, who either say they can give a payment &#8211; potentially measly &#8211; or are ambiguous about what you&#8217;ll get &#8211; are&#8230;<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Circontrol Wallbox eNext,<\/li>\r\n<li>FIMER FLEXA AC Wallbox<\/li>\r\n<li>Fronius Wattpilot<\/li>\r\n<li>Tesla Gen 3 Wall Connector<\/li>\r\n<li>Victron EV Charging Station<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>In reality, it&#8217;s unlikely you&#8217;ll be offered a refund.\u00a0 Some companies even give conflicting information on this.\u00a0 For example, on page six of Victorn&#8217;s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarwaysuppliers.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Victron-Warranty-Terms-and-Guidelines.pdf\"> Warranty and Service Guidelines and Policy manual<\/a>, they say they don&#8217;t give credit, which is exactly what their warranty document doesn&#8217;t say.\u00a0 But even though manufacturers are unlikely to pull this stunt in Australia, it still means the losers&#8217; warranties are weaselly and weak<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/ev-charger-warranties\/#en-75498-3' id='enref-75498-3' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(75498)'>3<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\r\n<h2>Is Labour Covered?<\/h2>\r\n<p>Most warranties say they will not cover uninstalling defective chargers and installing replacements or repaired units.\u00a0 This is a pain in the wallet because most EV chargers are hardwired. You may have to pay a pro hundreds of dollars to uninstall a faulty unit and the same again to have its replacement put in.\u00a0 Fortunately, four warranties cover labour costs&#8230;<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>ABB Terra Wallbox<\/li>\r\n<li>EVOS Fleet Home22<\/li>\r\n<li>Fronius Wattpilot<\/li>\r\n<li>SMA EV Charger<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Tesla&#8217;s may be the best of the losing warranties, as it doesn&#8217;t rule out paying for labour costs.\u00a0 Unfortunately, it&#8217;s not clear whether they will be covered<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/ev-charger-warranties\/#en-75498-4' id='enref-75498-4' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(75498)'>4<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-75982\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/compare-labour.jpg\" alt=\"One does not provide nothing for labour.\" width=\"815\" height=\"477\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/compare-labour.jpg 815w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/compare-labour-300x176.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/compare-labour-768x449.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 815px) 100vw, 815px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<h2>Transportation Costs<\/h2>\r\n<p>If an EV charger develops a fault while in warranty, the manufacturer may want you to send it to them at your cost.<\/p>\r\n<p>The winners, who promise to cover those transport costs, are the same as those who cover labour costs&#8230;<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>ABB Terra Wallbox<\/li>\r\n<li>EVOS Fleet Home22<\/li>\r\n<li>Fronius Wattpilot<\/li>\r\n<li>SMA EV Charger<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>I find it insulting when warranties say they won&#8217;t spring for the cost of sending it in<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/ev-charger-warranties\/#en-75498-5' id='enref-75498-5' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(75498)'>5<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-75979\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/compare-transport.jpg\" alt=\"Transporter costs not covered.\" width=\"814\" height=\"542\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/compare-transport.jpg 814w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/compare-transport-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/compare-transport-768x511.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 814px) 100vw, 814px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<h2>Wear &amp; Tear<\/h2>\r\n<p>I&#8217;d hope anyone confident enough to sell EV chargers that carry lethal current, would also be confident in providing a product that won&#8217;t fail due to normal wear and tear within two to five years. But many warranties say they won&#8217;t cover &#8220;parts subject to regular wear and tear&#8221; or words to that effect.\u00a0 This isn&#8217;t just scuffs and scratches; none of the warranties cover cosmetic damage.\u00a0 This refers to wear and tear that prevents the charger from working properly.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>This is rotten.\u00a0 If you make plugs, sockets, or other parts that regularly fail within five years of normal household use, you should find another vocation.\u00a0 Possibly making meringues or Silicon Valley banks or something else people expect to crumble at a touch.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>If a warranty makes a vague statement about not covering &#8220;consumable parts&#8221;, then I&#8217;m lumping it with loser warranties that say they don&#8217;t cover wear and tear.\u00a0 If they don&#8217;t like it, they should have used clearer wording.<\/p>\r\n<p>Winners that don&#8217;t exclude faults resulting from wear and tear or &#8220;consumable parts&#8221; are&#8230;<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Delta AC MAX (smart)<\/li>\r\n<li>Schneider EVLink Home<\/li>\r\n<li>Victron EV Charging Station<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>If a warranty excludes faults caused by wear and tear, it gives me a lousy impression of the product<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/ev-charger-warranties\/#en-75498-6' id='enref-75498-6' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(75498)'>6<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\r\n<h2>Is It Transferrable?<\/h2>\r\n<p>Because the majority of EV charger warranties are short, most people won&#8217;t want to transfer them to a new owner before they end.\u00a0 But being able to pass it on to someone else is still a useful option to have.\u00a0 The only winner in this category is made in Austria:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>The Fronius Wattpilot<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/ev-charger-warranties\/#en-75498-7' id='enref-75498-7' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(75498)'>7<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2>Crazy Exclusions<\/h2>\r\n<p>All EV charger warranties are pretty miserly, playing the blame game in the manufacturer&#8217;s favour. They all draw the line at &#8216;Acts of God&#8217;. So if a lightning bolt from Zeus damages your EV charger, too bad.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>But the standout laugh in this sad comedy show is&#8230;<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>The Fimer FLEXA AC Wallbox&#8217;s warranty<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>It quotes Australian consumer law one moment, then contradicts it the next. The only area where it didn&#8217;t shine was excluding faults due to wear and tear.<\/p>\r\n<p>But note the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sma-australia.com.au\/products\/e-mobility-charging-solutions\/sma-ev-charger-74-22\">SMA EV charger<\/a> isn&#8217;t cheap.\u00a0 It&#8217;s one of the most expensive on the market and can set you back around $2,500 before installation.<\/p>\r\n<div id=\"attachment_76032\" style=\"width: 970px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-76032\" class=\"size-full wp-image-76032\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/sma-ev-charger.jpg\" alt=\"sma ev charger\" width=\"960\" height=\"938\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/sma-ev-charger.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/sma-ev-charger-300x293.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/sma-ev-charger-768x750.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-76032\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Winner!
