Has\u00a0your solar panel’s ‘product warranty’\u00a0has been magically transformed from 10 to 25 years thanks to Australian Consumer Law?<\/p><\/div>\n

When people ask me about solar panel warranties<\/a>, I tell them to look at the\u00a0product warranty.\u00a0 This is usually for 10 or 12 years.<\/p>\n

I tell them not to worry about the performance warranty, which is normally for 25 years or sometimes 30. \u00a0You see, while most manufacturers are happy to\u00a0honor their product warranties, not all of them expect to\u00a0replace solar panels that fail while they are only covered by their performance warranty.<\/p>\n

I think some manufacturers believe their performance warranty doesn’t place them under the same obligation to repair, replace, or give a refund for panels that fail as their product warranty does.<\/p>\n

But in my opinion1<\/a><\/sup>, there is no difference under Australian Consumer Law<\/a> between a product warranty and a performance warranty.\u00a0 One is exactly as binding as the other.<\/p>\n
