rolls on, with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) recommending to Assistant Treasurer Stephen Jones that he issue a national product safety notice for the solar storage units.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accc.gov.au\/media-release\/consumers-urged-to-immediately-check-for-recalled-lg-solar-batteries-after-government-safety-warning-notice\">the ACCC\u2019s announcement,<\/a> around 8000 batteries remain in homes, and 6000 haven\u2019t been located.<\/p>\n<p>The at-risk units include batteries branded LG or SolaX, but the batteries could also be inside unbranded systems, which consumers are urged to check to avoid the risk of a fire.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.productsafety.gov.au\/system\/files\/lg-battery-storage-safety-notice.pdf\">product safety notice (pdf)<\/a>, \u201cThe batteries can catch on fire at any time, without warning \u2026 Additionally, batteries in thermal runaway can release toxic, flammable gasses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The notice gives the full list of known brands including,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>LG RESU<\/li>\n<li>SolaX Power Station,<\/li>\n<li>SolaX X-Cabinet,<\/li>\n<li>Opal Storage,<\/li>\n<li>Redback SH5000,<\/li>\n<li>Red Earth Sunrise,<\/li>\n<li>Red Earth Drop Bear,<\/li>\n<li>Varta<\/li>\n<li>Eguana<\/li>\n<li>plus some unbranded systems with LG packs inside.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" systems.<\/p>\n<p>The recall was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/lg-chem-resu-recall-mb1896\/\">first announced in 2021<\/a> in Australia, following a 2020 recall in the USA.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s stayed in the news ever since: in 2022, the original belief that it affected \u201chundreds\u201d of batteries in Australia was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/lg-battery-recall-mb2636\/\">expanded to thousands<\/a>, the first time the ACCC mentioned that there were more than 6400 units in the field.<\/p>\n<p>When LG Energy Solution Australia&#8217;s Phillip Crotty addressed the Smart Energy Conference last November, he said 82% of the batteries had been addressed, although they had not all yet been replaced.<\/p>\n<p>LG\u2019s solutions remain the same as they have been for some time: replacement of some batteries and, in other cases, providing diagnostic software to shut down batteries
