An extremely ambitious plan in the United States to create what has been described as the world\u2019s first solar-powered city has, perhaps unsurprisingly, already run into a great many problems.<\/span><\/p>\n

The developer of the programme has stated that he wants to start building the city in June. This city was planned to be home to 20,000 people but is currently being held up, with regards to initial construction, by a number of political problems and planning permission issues. A number of light-industrial companies had also been planning to move to the area. The Florida Power and Light Company has said the setup will cost $400m.<\/p>\n

\u00a0While President Barack Obama is supporting the increase of renewable energy, Florida\u2019s republicans are sceptical about the issue, in spite of the fact they are usually very encouraging to the workings of bigger businesses. They have been reluctant to push the alternative energy agenda backed by the president of the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0The plans propose that the entire city will be powered entirely by solar power, which will take up 350 acres of land within the city.\u00a0 Babcock Ranch is also supposed to feature a sustainable water management system and a number of conservation technologies including street lights which are supposed to reduce light pollution and even citywide electric car chargers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Although most environmentalists have condoned the plan and been very enthusiastic about it, there have been a great number of people who regarded with some suspicion due to the area being very overcrowded already. There have been worries as to whether the area can even sustain another city.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
