One of my best outcomes was getting a customer to think about longer term aims, then planning to suit. The EV charger will be added here.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>A Benign Looking Example<\/h2>\n<p>This two-phase domestic switchboard had been updated within the last ten years, but it was packed full.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_84027\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-84027\" class=\"wp-image-84027 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/2-phase-switchboard.jpg\" alt=\"Full domestic switchboard\" width=\"700\" height=\"608\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/2-phase-switchboard.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/2-phase-switchboard-300x261.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-84027\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Despite being updated this switchboard still needs attention. The time clock will be removed so two meters can go side by side, freeing up space for a meter isolator and more consumer circuits like the spa&#8230; and solar.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/div>\n<p>You never really know what you&#8217;ll find until the covers are off. In this instance, the electrician who quoted the solar should have tweaked something wasn&#8217;t quite right simply because there were two main switches. He was qualified to remove the escutcheon and pinpoint the problems but a non-electrician isn&#8217;t legally able to take this picture below.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_84028\" style=\"width: 910px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-84028\" class=\"wp-image-84028 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/2-phase-exposed.jpg\" alt=\"switchboard with escutcheon removed\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/2-phase-exposed.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/2-phase-exposed-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/2-phase-exposed-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-84028\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This board was neat enough, but two main switches should be ganged together and should have a red toggle, and these days, there needs to be twelve safety switches, not just one.<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Communication Is Key<\/h2>\n<p>Many solar businesses rely on quotes via satellite, <em>which isn&#8217;t a bad thing<\/em> but you can have a virtual visit by sending photos of your switchboard to whoever produces the quote. Even if you have a new and supposedly compliant house there can be surprises, but photos offer documentation which can prevent surprise charges on the day.<\/p>\n<p>The best installers will have a qualified trade visit your place, measure up and document what&#8217;s needed.
