\"Hoymiles<\/p>\n

There’s yet another choice for Australian home battery buyers – Hoymiles’ LB-5D-G2. While there’s missing information (nothing unusual with new solar gear launches), let’s take a look at some of its specifications.<\/p>\n

Founded in 2012, China’s Hoymiles has a special focus on manufacturing microinverters and hybrid inverters<\/a>; but it has also stepped into the battery storage arena. The low-voltage LB-5D-G2 is its latest offering and is now available to customers in the Asia Pacific.<\/p>\n

Hoymiles LB-5D-G2 Specs<\/h2>\n

Based on Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP\/LiFEPo4) chemistry and geared towards small commercial applications as well as households, a single LB-5D-G2 doesn’t offer a huge amount of capacity – just 5.12 kWh – but up to 16 batteries can be run in parallel for a total of 81.92 kWh capacity. It’s not made clear if those are nominal or useable capacities, but the LB-5D-G2 datasheet<\/a> notes a recommended depth of discharge (DOD) of 90%.<\/p>\n

As a single unit, it’s not big on power either, with 2.56 kW charge\/discharge grunt – or 3.84 kW peak (10 seconds). So, if you fire up anything much more than a kettle (around 1.8 to 2.2 kW), there won’t be a lot of power spare for other activities. The LB-5D-G2 has a rated voltage of 51.2V and a voltage range of 44.8-58.4V.<\/p>\n

This Hoymiles battery can be wall or floor mounted. For wall mounting, up to 2 batteries can be stacked, and 4 in the case of floor mounting.<\/p>\n

A single LB-5D-G2 battery measures 640 \u00d7 380 \u00d7 145mm; so it’s quite slim, and weighs in at 45 kilograms. As for ingress rating, it’s only IP20; which means it must be installed inside. It has a charging temperature range of 0\u00b0C to +50\u00b0C and a discharge range of -20\u00b0C to +50\u00b0C.<\/p>\n

The battery will automatically communicate with a Hoymiles hybrid inverter once added to the the S-Miles Cloud app, which is accessible from both mobile devices and web browsers.<\/p>\n

“As the demand for renewable energy continues to rise in APAC, Hoymiles is proud to unveil its innovative solar battery that anyone can afford,” states the company<\/a>. “This solution not only tackles current energy challenges but also paves the way for a greener and more sustainable future.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A solar battery that “anyone can afford” sounds good – but it’s a big claim to make. I haven’t seen any pricing as yet.<\/p>\n

LB-5D-G2 Battery Warranty<\/h2>\n

The LB-5D-G2 battery is accompanied by a standard warranty of 5 years, which can be extended to 10 years for an extra cost. Buyers purchasing the battery along with a Hoymiles residential storage inverter can get a free warranty extension to 10 years. Hoymiles says the LB-5D-G2’s cycle life is 6000 cycles at 90% DOD, with 70% of original capacity at end of life. There didn’t appear to be a full AU warranty document yet available at the time of publishing that provides the finer details.<\/p>\n

Something else that doesn’t appear to be in place yet is Clean Energy Council approval, which is necessary for some state incentive schemes. At the time of writing, the only Hoymiles CEC approved batteries were the HBX-5LV-G1 and the HBX-10LV-G1, which are different beasts and I’m not sure if they’ve ever been available here.<\/p>\n

While it may be a while before any of these new batteries have been “out in the wild” in Australia long enough in order to gauge their performance and get feedback, we’ve set up a Hoymiles battery review page<\/a> in anticipation.<\/p>\n
