A U-value (aka thermal transmittance) measures how well all the layers of a building element such as a roof conduct heat. It is expressed in watts per square meter per degree Kelvin (W\/m\u00b2K) and indicates the rate of heat transfer through a material. The lower the U-value, the better.<\/p>\n<p>On the solar electricity generation side of things, PowerPanel&#8217;s output capacity is up to 475W.<\/p>\n<p>Kingspan says the panels can be used for building applications with roof pitches of 4\u00b0 or more after deflection.\u00a0Usually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/angle\/\">solar panels should be installed at an angle<\/a> no less than 10 degrees &#8211; below that and tilt frames should be used. Frameless panels are also an option, but problems have emerged over the years with clamps loosening unless they have a regular bolt torquing schedule, so SQ doesn&#8217;t recommend them these days.<\/p>\n<p>Less than 10\u00b0 and rainwater pooling can get through the panels\u2019 seals over time and into the solar cells themselves. The bottom frame can act as a barrier to water draining off, which encourages build-up of grime that negatively impacts performance and can also cause <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/stop-hot-spots-solar-maintenance\/\">hot-spots<\/a>. I&#8217;ve contacted Kingspan in Australia to ask if\/when it will be available here and will update this post if\/when I receive a reply.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<br \/>\n<strong>Update 27 February:<\/strong> Kingspan have told me that its R&amp;D team is looking into launching this product into the Australian market, but there is no timeline on when it will be available to purchase.<br \/>\n&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>On a related note and taking things a step further to Building Integrated PV (where solar panels *replace* roofing\/wall materials, or windows &#8211;
