Bowen added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In the past it&#8217;s been difficult for apartment residents to reap the benefits of cleaner, cheaper solar &#8211; but Labor is helping households overcome those barriers and powering more Australian homes with renewables.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>What Does SoAR Cover<\/h2>\n<p>The following products and services are covered under the grant:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Solar panels, inverters and mounting;<\/li>\n<li>Solar sharing technology;<\/li>\n<li>Labour for solar installation;<\/li>\n<li>Safety equipment;<\/li>\n<li>Essential meter board upgrades (where there is clear evidence that it is required for the solar system to function effectively<br \/>\nwiring upgrade for solar connection purposes only);<\/li>\n<li>Roof waterproofing (only where required due to the solar installation).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How To Apply for Apartment Solar<\/h2>\n<p>Eligible to apply are owners corporations or strata managers of apartments or other multi-unit dwellings with 3-55 units, which haven\u2019t had a solar PV system installed in the last 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>Individual apartment residents are not able to apply themselves, and are encouraged to share details with their owners corporation or strata manager and get them to pursue it: <a href=\"https:\/\/netzeronsw.smartygrants.com.au\/SoAR\">applications can be made here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Applications are now open and will close on 1 December 2025 or when funding is exhausted, with grants awarded on a &#8220;first in, first served&#8221; basis. Full eligibility requirements <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.nsw.gov.au\/households\/rebates-grants-and-schemes\/solar-apartment-residents\">can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The incentive is funded by the federal government&#8217;s Solar Banks Scheme, which is focused on removing the barriers to accessing solar nationwide, and is a key action in the NSW Government\u2019s Consumer Energy Strategy.<\/p>\n<p>It forms part of a $206m package announced last year from the Albanese and Minns Governments for energy-saving upgrades in social housing properties and access to solar for low-income renters and apartment residents.<\/p>\n<p>The NSW state government claims over 10,000 households will use the Solar Banks program, each saving up to $600 annually on electricity bills.<\/p>\n<h2>Apartment Solar Outside NSW<\/h2>\n<p>The federal government&#8217;s $100m Community Solar Banks program has partnered with state and territory governments around the country to help apartment dwellers get solar, although applications are no longer available for some. It includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Victoria: <\/strong>A scheme jointly funded by the Victorian and Commonwealth governments <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solar.vic.gov.au\/apartments\">just concluded a second round of grants<\/a>, but no further rounds have been announced at this stage. On offer was up to $2,800 per household, or up to $140,000 per property for buildings of up to 50 apartments;<\/li>\n<li><strong>ACT: <\/strong>A scheme jointly backed by the ACT and federal governments offers up to $100,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatechoices.act.gov.au\/policy-programs\/solar-for-apartments-program\">in grant funds and a zero-interest loan<\/a> for solar installations that benefit all residents of an apartment complex;<\/li>\n<li><strong>NT: <\/strong>\u00a0The federal and NT governments are backing a <a href=\"https:\/\/territoryrenewableenergy.nt.gov.au\/programs\">scheme that provides up to $7,500 per individual dwelling<\/a>, to support up to 50% of the total installation costs of a shared solar system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How Apartment Blocks Can Share Solar<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_90055\" style=\"width: 1406px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-90055\" class=\"size-full wp-image-90055\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/SolShare-graphic.png\" alt=\"An infographic showing an apartment solar sharing scheme\" width=\"1396\" height=\"1210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/SolShare-graphic.png 1396w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/SolShare-graphic-300x260.png 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/SolShare-graphic-1024x888.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/SolShare-graphic-768x666.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1396px) 100vw, 1396px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-90055\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Allume&#8217;s SolShare system allows apartment complexes to share the benefits of the building&#8217;s solar.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/apartments\/#difficult\">unique challenges<\/a> to rolling out solar for multi-unit dwellings, and options are limited for how apartment blocks can get in on the action.<\/p>\n<p>Australian company Allume offers <a href=\"https:\/\/allumeenergy.com\/au\/solshare-how-it-works\/?utm_source=referal_sq&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_campaign=solarquotes\">SolShare<\/a>: a behind-the-meter solution which splits the electricity from the solar system via a hardware device, with a \u2018dynamic sharing algorithm\u2019 allocating it fairly to residents over the course of a month. This could be an equal share, or varying allocations according to each apartment\u2019s size, and also sends some to common areas.<\/p>\n<p>Allume has put out the call for interested parties <a href=\"https:\/\/info.allumeenergy.com\/au\/nsw-solar-for-apartments?utm_source=referal_sq&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_campaign=solarquotes\">to apply for a Shared Solar Assessment<\/a> for their building to gauge eligibility for the NSW grant, as well as the estimated cost and savings.
