For those in that situation who own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/electric-vehicles\/\"> electric vehicles<\/a>, that means they usually can&#8217;t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/ev-chargers\/\">charge their EV at home<\/a>. However, some give it a red-hot go with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/street-ev-charging\/\"> weird and wonderful charging rigs<\/a> that have attracted controversy and at times council attention due to potential electrical safety and trip hazard issues.<\/p>\n<p>The Minns Government is helping to address the situation by investing $10 million across multiple rounds under a co-funding arrangement to install EV kerbside chargers in areas with the least access to private, off-street parking.\u00a0 Part of the NSW Electric Vehicle Strategy, the kerbside program was originally announced in July 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Recipients from the latest round were revealed on Wednesday. Five companies will receive a total of $2.8 million in grants and the recipients will kick in another $2.2 million in private investment. The grant recipients are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chargepost.com.au\/\">ChargePost<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/connectedkerb.com\/\">Connected Kerb<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/evx.tech\/\">EVX<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/pluses.com.au\/\">Plus ES<\/a><\/li>\n<li>EF Asset Management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ChargePost, Plus ES and EVX were also among the recipients in Round 1.<\/p>\n<p>The 7 kW and 22kW pole-mounted and pedestal chargers will be installed across 22 Local Government Areas, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsw.gov.au\/ministerial-releases\/more-ev-chargers-hitting-nsw-kerbsides\">listed here<\/a>, on kerbsides and in public council car parks in 130 suburbs over the next 12 months. The area to get the most love will be the City of Parramatta, with 70 chargers, followed by the Northern Beaches with 66.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the latest grants, Electric Vehicle Council CEO Julie Delvecchio <a href=\"https:\/\/electricvehiclecouncil.com.au\/media-releases\/hundreds-of-kerbside-ev-chargers-to-hit-nsw-streets\/\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe NSW government\u2019s EV kerbside charging investment couldn\u2019t come at a better time as Australians now have access to more than 150 EV models, with options to suit every lifestyle and prices starting at around $30,000. We support this roll out as a crucial step toward building a charging network that\u2019s reliable and fair.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Funding Level Based On Priority Zones<\/h2>\n<p>The kerbside program offers co-funding up to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>80% of total installation and equipment costs of an EV charger.<\/li>\n<li>80% of a 3-year software subscription where third-party software is used.<\/li>\n<li>$800,000 per applicant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Three priority zone types were identified for the program based on population density, housing type, housing tenure and vehicle ownership, and funding levels vary depending on which zone the stations are to be installed in.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Green Zone: $10,000 (ex GST) per charge port<\/li>\n<li>Yellow Zone: $8,000<\/li>\n<li>Blue Zone: $6,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-93156\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/charger-priority-zones.jpg\" alt=\"kerbside charging station priority zones\" width=\"906\" height=\"562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/charger-priority-zones.jpg 906w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/charger-priority-zones-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/charger-priority-zones-768x476.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 906px) 100vw, 906px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The full interactive priority zone map <a href=\"https:\/\/experience.arcgis.com\/experience\/aae81da348994bbcaf534e369953045a\/\">can be viewed here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>What About Regional NSW?<\/h2>\n<p>While the kerbside grants focus is on densely populated areas, the Minns Government is also supporting a rollout in regional areas through the EV Destination and EV Fast Charging Grants.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.nsw.gov.au\/business-and-industry\/programs-grants-and-schemes\/electric-vehicles\/electric-vehicle-destination\"> Destination Charging Grants<\/a> provide co-funding for installations at visitor destinations. Round 3 closed for applications in late March this year, with up to $12 million in funding up for grabs across 71 eligible zones.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.nsw.gov.au\/business-and-industry\/programs-grants-and-schemes\/electric-vehicles\/electric-vehicle-fast-charging\">Fast Charging Grants<\/a> support establishing a network of ultra-fast chargers along major roads and highways. This involves a $149 million government investment in total that will add approximately 275 stations across the state.
