Here&#8217;s what to know.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>What GoodWe\/GE Inverter Models Are Affected By The Recall?<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.productsafety.gov.au\/search-consumer-product-recalls\/goodwe-ehb-series-and-geh-series-solar-inverters\">Announced<\/a> on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission&#8217;s (ACC&#8217;s) ProductSafety website on September 19, 2025, the recall affects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GoodWe EHB series models: GW5K-EHB-AU-G11, GW8.6K-EHB-AU-G11, GW9.99K-EHB-AU-G11<\/li>\n<li>GE branded GEH series models: GEH5.0-1U-10, GEH8.6-1U10, GEH10-1U-10<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The affected inverters were available for sale between 03 May 2021 to 04 September 2025, so it covers a significant timespan.<\/p>\n<h2>What Issue Triggered The Inverter Recall?<\/h2>\n<p>When an affected hybrid inverter\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/hybrid-solar-bypass-switch\/\"> bypass switch<\/a> is turned to the bypass position and the inverter is operating in backup mode, the unit will continue to export power to the grid. In the event of an islanding situation, it could result in electric shock to consumers and personnel working on switchboards or on power lines.<\/p>\n<p>All grid-connect inverters approved for use in Australia must have comprehensive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/inverters\/anti-islanding-protection\/\">anti-islanding protection<\/a>. The inverter must sense when the power grid has failed and stop exporting power back to the grid.<\/p>\n<h2>What&#8217;s The Fix?<\/h2>\n<p>A firmware upgrade (version: 050531) that GoodWe must apply. According to the recall notice, GoodWe would be remotely upgrading the firmware for inverters that are online. For those that are offline, a technician would be required to visit and complete the firmware upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>But &#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>What Should Impacted GoodWe Inverter Owners Do?<\/h2>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwe.com.au\/declaration-statement-safe-use-of-bypass-switch-on-goodwe-ehb-series-and-ge-branded-geh-inverters\">subsequent update<\/a> from GoodWe indicates all online affected EHB and GE GEH hybrid inverters had already been rectified prior to the formal recall launch; and for any systems that were offline, they will be upgraded via the forced firmware upgrade once online.<\/p>\n<p>The company also stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;GoodWe is aware of the potential misuse of the BYPASS switch in the market. In order to ensure the safe and correct operation of the inverter, GoodWe declares that the BYPASS switch must remain in Normal Mode at all times, except in the event of an inverter fault where the unit has ceased functioning.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To check the firmware version, owners can go to the &#8220;Settings&#8221; menu in the SolarGo app and find &#8220;Firmware Information.&#8221; The version should be at least 050531.<\/p>\n<p>Owners of affected units must not put the inverter in bypass mode nor conduct any works on it until the firmware is updated.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re unsure if your hybrid inverter still requires attention, the contact points for GoodWe are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Phone:<\/b> 0488 851 481<\/li>\n<li><b>Email:<\/b> <a href=\"mailto:support2@goodwerecall.com.au\">support2@goodwerecall.com.au<\/a><\/li>\n<li><b>Visit:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwe.com.au\/contact-us\">https:\/\/www.goodwe.com.au\/contact-us<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Why Were GE Inverters Included In This Recall?<\/h2>\n<p>Back in 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/ge-solar-inverter-mb1899\/\">GE chose GoodWe<\/a> to produce a range of GE-branded devices to its own specifications, which became available here in 2021. But as of late last year, GoodWe is no longer selling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/inverters\/ge-review.html\">GE branded inverters<\/a>. The firm has committed to continue to honour warranties and provide customer service. The GESolarInverter.com website now redirects to a GoodWe page.<\/p>\n<h2>Not GoodWe&#8217;s First Australian Recall Rodeo<\/h2>\n<p>In late 2023, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.productsafety.gov.au\/recalls\/ms-30-solar-inverters-updated\">GoodWe MS-30 inverters were recalled<\/a> due to a non-compliant plug assembly, exposing the user to live, hazardous voltage if the grid supply cable was disconnected. Unplugging the inverter without switching the AC supply off resulted in the plug being unsafe to leave open as it wasn&#8217;t touch-proof. The affected units were sold between 13 May 2023 \u2013 16 November 2023 in Australia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/inverters\/goodwe-review.html\">GoodWe solar inverters<\/a> have been a popular choice for home solar power installation in Australia; particularly among buyers on a tight budget.
