The Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) recently announced the winner of its 2025 Charging Station of the Year award.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Which Charging Station Won?<\/h2>\n<p>The winner of AEVA\u2019s Best Charging Station for 2025 is the Tesla supercharger site in New Italy, NSW. New Italy is a village near Woodburn in the Northern Rivers region, nearly 700 kilometres north-east of Sydney.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.plugshare.com\/location\/740258\">Plugshare<\/a> (from which the photo above was sourced) lists the site as located at 1269 Swan Bay-New Italy Rd, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tesla.com\/en_au\/findus\/location\/supercharger\/31617\">Tesla<\/a> pegs it at 8275 Pacific Motorway. Judging by a satellite map, Plugshare has it right. But the station can be accessed via the Pacific Motorway (Highway), which is just a few hundred metres away \u2014 turn off from the motorway onto Antoniolle Road, then turn onto Swan Bay-New Italy Road.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-96214\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/new-italy-tesla-supercharger.png\" alt=\"New Italy, NSW Tesla supercharger station location.\" width=\"794\" height=\"472\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/new-italy-tesla-supercharger.png 794w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/new-italy-tesla-supercharger-300x178.png 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/new-italy-tesla-supercharger-768x457.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 794px) 100vw, 794px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The AEVA award, now in its second year<sup class='endnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/ev-charging-award-2025-mb3322\/#en-96211-1' id='enref-96211-1' onclick='return hhEndnotes_show(96211)'>1<\/a><\/sup>, recognises reliable, convenient, well-maintained and thoughtfully designed public stations, with nominations made by AEVA members. The announcement was made at AEVA&#8217;s annual conference in Melbourne on the 13th of November.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Was New Italy Chosen The Winner?<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aeva.asn.au\/files\/4544\/\">AEVA highlighted<\/a> several attributes of the New Italy facility that factored into its win, being:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An 80kW solar array shading the 12 bays (with chargers providing up to 300 kW max according to Tesla, and up to 250 kW according to Plugshare.)<\/li>\n<li>Good lighting and surrounds; including shaded areas and picnic tables.<\/li>\n<li>Close to a cafe, toilets and a gift shop.<\/li>\n<li>Pull-through parking for electric vehicles towing trailers.<\/li>\n<li>Tap-and-go credit card payment option.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While a Tesla supercharger station, it&#8217;s open to other EVs with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/electric-vehicles\/ev-charging-guide\/#connectors\"> CCS compatibility<\/a>. This extended accessibility was part of a deal with the NSW government, which co-funded the station.<\/p>\n<h2>How Much Does It Cost To Charge There?<\/h2>\n<p>At the time of writing, the pricing at the New Italy station for Tesla vehicles and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tesla.com\/en_AU\/support\/charging\/supercharging-other-evs#supercharging-membership\">Supercharging Membership<\/a> holders is $0.39\/kWh. For non-Tesla\/non-members, the cost is $0.54\/kWh. In both instances, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/ev-charging-idle-fees-mb3024\/\">congestion fee (aka idle fee)<\/a> of up to $0.50\/min also applies.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla states a congestion fee applies when a Supercharger site is busy and a vehicle\u2019s battery is already at or above 80%; or the session has ended. In these scenarios, there&#8217;s a five-minute grace period to disconnect a vehicle before congestion fees apply.<\/p>\n<h2>NSW EV Charger Rollout Continues<\/h2>\n<p>In related news, the NSW Government recently announced a $5.9 million boost to EV charging infrastructure in regional areas of the state. This involves 159 new chargers powered by 100% renewable energy for 48 regional hotspots to be rolled out over the next year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-96213\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/destination-charging-grants.png\" alt=\"Round 3 NSW Destination Charging Grants.\" width=\"818\" height=\"619\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/destination-charging-grants.png 818w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/destination-charging-grants-300x227.png 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/destination-charging-grants-768x581.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 818px) 100vw, 818px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;They will be installed along iconic NSW road trip routes and at key tourism destinations, covering stretches of road from Bourke to Murray and Tweed to Tumut. Drivers will be able to charge at rest stops, visitor centres, supermarkets, holiday hotspots and more,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.nsw.gov.au\/news\/charging-ahead-more-options-ev-drivers\">says the announcement<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Government funding from Round 3 of the Minns&#8217; Government&#8217;s EV <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.nsw.gov.au\/business-and-industry\/programs-grants-and-schemes\/electric-vehicles\/electric-vehicle-destination\"> Destination Charging Grants<\/a> will be accompanied by $3.2 million in private investment.
