Here\u2019s a rundown of our biggest stories across 2025.<\/p>\n<h2><!--more-->The Federal Battery Rebate<\/h2>\n<p>Without question, the most significant stories of the year revolved around the hugely popular Cheaper Home Batteries Program:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/labor-home-batteries-mb\/\">during the election campaign<\/a>, the federal battery rebate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/battery-rebate-rules-locked-in-days-before-deadline\/\">had its rules locked in<\/a> after Labor was returned to power;<\/li>\n<li>In terms of adding storage capacity to the grid, the scheme has been revolutionary &#8211; in October we estimated it was on track to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/battery-rebate-to-deliver-a-coal-plant-of-power-in-18-months\/\">add a coal plant worth of power in 18 months<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>The rebate has had its share of issues however &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/dont-blow-rebate-on-big-battery\/\">incentivising oversized batteries<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/new-battery-great-now-switch-it-off-until-july\/\">mandating strange rules<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/double-dipping-labors-battery-incentive-big-savings-big-problems\/\">overlapping with state schemes<\/a> to the point <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/battery-rebate-deposits-mb3197\/\">many were watered down or scrapped<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Less than a month after the program launched, SolarQuotes resident fact checker Ronald Brakels <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/federal-battery-rebate-on-track-to-run-out-of-funding\/\">was the first to warn<\/a> the rebate was on track to exhaust its funding years ahead of schedule &#8211; and in November <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/battery-rebate-funding-mb3316\/\">we flagged it could run out by mid 2026.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The federal government in December revealed a host of changes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/federal-battery-rebate-changes-revealed\/\">to keep the program sustainable<\/a>, and we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/home-battery-rebate-calculator-mb3340\/\">updated our rebate and battery calculators to ensure they reflected the latest rules.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Retail Giants Join The Fray<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-96938\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG_1061-2048x1366-1.jpeg\" alt=\"An Aldi Solar truck\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG_1061-2048x1366-1.jpeg 2048w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG_1061-2048x1366-1-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG_1061-2048x1366-1-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG_1061-2048x1366-1-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG_1061-2048x1366-1-1536x1025.jpeg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Home electrification truly entered the mainstream in 2025, with corporate giants like Aldi &amp; Bunnings attempting to carve out a space in the market.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bunnings started stocking home EV chargers, but we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/bunnings-dodgy-ev-charger-installs\/\">weren&#8217;t terribly impressed in our January writeup<\/a>.
