The hugely popular home energy brand is offering free cable covers to customers who already have their home battery systems installed but lack sufficient mechanical protection.<\/p>\n<h2><!--more-->What Is Included In Fox ESS&#8217;s Cover Offer?<\/h2>\n<p>Fox ESS is offering covers for both its battery and inverter cables.<\/p>\n<p>A Fox ESS representative alerted SolarQuotes to the offer on Tuesday, in the wake of our coverage around inadequate mechanical protection observed with installations of the company&#8217;s products (along with other brands).<\/p>\n<p>The Fox ESS representative advised that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cable covers are provided free of charge to end\u2011users whose systems are missing them.<\/li>\n<li>Battery cable covers use a simple clip\u2011on design and can be installed easily.<\/li>\n<li>Inverter cable covers require installer support;<\/li>\n<li>Only one battery cable cover and\/or one inverter cable cover will be supplied per serial number.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Why Battery Cables Need Cover<\/h2>\n<p>SolarQuotes founder Finn Peacock in April <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/australias-battery-boom-has-a-wiring-problem\/\">put the issue on the agenda in April<\/a>, noting:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;If you\u2019ve got a high-voltage stackable battery system and the DC cables between the battery and inverter don\u2019t have mechanical protection, you\u2019re not compliant with Australian standards and your systems could be classed as unsafe \u2013 and shut down.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>SolarQuotes&#8217; in-house installer Anthony Bennett expressed concern that regulators <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/home-battery-cables-need-protecting\/\">seemed to be overlooking<\/a>\u00a0mechanical protection issues across multiple brands, and that some installers had improvised workarounds by plumbing conduit directly into inverters, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/stop-plumbing-conduit-into-inverters-the-drainage-problem\/\">creating a new problem of water ingress.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In late May, Anthony detailed how Fox ESS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/foxess-good-value-watch-out-shocks\/\">began shipping cable covers<\/a> for the EQ Series via distributors in the second half of 2025 as separate packaged items, and included cable covers by default inside the battery packaging for the CQ Series.<\/p>\n<p>All inverter models began shipping with mechanical covers to distributors in late 2025, in separate packages to the inverter itself.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_99259\" style=\"width: 608px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-99259\" class=\"wp-image-99259 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/fox-junk-e1780987244970.jpg\" alt=\"Fox ESS without a cover\" width=\"598\" height=\"651\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/fox-junk-e1780987244970.jpg 598w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/fox-junk-e1780987244970-276x300.jpg 276w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-99259\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An example of a Fox ESS install without the cover. In a press release announcing the development, the company stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;By optimising logistics and streamlining the production flow, the time from raw materials receiving to line commissioning has been reduced from 30 minutes to within 5 minutes, significantly improving throughput.
